Does anyone know about when PRS started making the fancy, paisley cases for some of their higher-end guitars?
Thanks

When they came out with the Artist packages long ago, they shipped in black leather cases with a looped leather handle. I think the Artist Models that were different from Artist packages, must have as well, I had one in the leather case (Artist II, 1993). I'd bet the Dragons also shipped in the leather cases, and perhaps other limited runs.

The early Modern Eagles shipped in tan suede cases. I don't know about later ones.

When they started Private Stock in the 1990s, they shipped in leather cases of various kinds, as well as other materials based on client spec.

At some point PRS had to change case suppliers because the company that originally made their cases closed its doors.

The paisley cases started in the early 2010s, if memory serves. At some point Artist models came in black paisley cases without leather. The cases also became available at the PRS Accessory Shop as aftermarket items.

I could be off by a couple of years one way or the other. PRS also started covering some of the USA made CAD amps with the paisley fabric - and other fabrics.

Thanks for the replies guys. I just picked up a 2001 PRS Custom 22 Triple Soapbar that came in a beautiful brownish/gold paisley case. After reading your replies, my guess is that the guitar should have a black case, but somewhere down the line, someone swapped in the paisley one. Great upgrade, as far as I'm concerned, the case is as gorgeous as the guitar. :)

An update to my case question, which really was aimed at the new, to me, Custom 22 Triple Soapbar that was in it.....tried asking PRS CS about a couple of things and only got info on what I already knew about the guitar; 2001 manufacture date, emerald green quilted maple top, rosewood board on a maple neck with a D carve. What I was hoping to get answered were.....type of finish, poly or nitro and pickup manufacturer (pretty sure they're SD). Hopefully one of you can help with those questions.

FWIW, this may be the finest sounding PRS I have ever played, mainly because I'm not a big fan of any humbuckers (ducking here), PRS, Gibson, etc. The pickups, whatever they are, are the ballsiet things I've ever heard. Neck shape fits my hand perfectly and the guitar is absolutely gorgeous. It must have belonged to a collector, there are literally no signs of it ever being played, no fret wear, not a scratch anywhere, even on the pickup covers. Would love to show some pics, but I don't have a hosting service.

Thanks for any help.

PRS didn’t use nitro in 2001, so it’s poly. I believe all their soapie guitars have had some version Duncan’s in them.

Neck carve options were wide fat or wide thin back then.

Thanks for that, vchizzle, that's two of the questions I had answered....

IIRC the paisley first appeared at the 2009(?) PRS Experience. Somebody liked it a lot and bought a bunch, and they weren't sure just then what they were going to do with it. I think they'd nicknamed the print "Granny's Couch" or something like that. Not long after, paisley cases started appearing and the rest is history. I also think I recall somebody saying they expected to run out of it before long since it was discontinued. I'd hazard a guess they got production re-continued.
