After a lengthy shutdown, PRS has made the unexpected decision to lease most of it's factory space to a storage company and revert to boutique-levels of production. Effective immediately, PRS will only produce 5 unique models; each with identical wood, bridge, and electronic specifications.

In an effort to ensure nostalgia doesn't get in the way of customer requirements, PRS has turned to the official PRS forum, keepers of the flame, to help identify those 5 models. In an unexpected twist, buyers will still be able to commission what have previously been known as 'Private Stock' Guitars. However, they will all be made by Paul, start to finish, under the moniker 'Purist'. There will obviously be no guarantee of delivery dates for 'Purist' guitars (but that's another thread).

Please take a moment to share your thoughts on the 5 production instruments you recommend. Each forum member is asked to provide feedback on the one model that must be included in the top 5. The top 5 will be compiled once there are at least 100 responses. Remember, this your recommendation for a production instrument, not a Purist PRS.

Please format your feedback as follows:

MODEL: McCarty
BODY WOOD: Mahogany
TOP WOOD: European Maple
NECK WOOD: Quarter-sawn, East Indian Rosewood
FRETBOARD WOOD: Dark, old-growth, Brazilian Rosewood
INLAY: Old Skool Birds
BRIDGE: PG Stoptail (Brass Inserts)
ELECTRONICS: TCI Narrow 408's with 'McCarty Switching' and mini-toggles
SCALE: 25"
FINISH: Gloss nitro

I suppose it’d depend on what kind of boutique company they’d wanna be

I mean, I don’t mean this in a disrespectful way but... would they wanna keep their trend of shall we say “inspired by” guitars ie: Strat and Les Paul guitars that seem to be so popular? Or are they moving back to the beginning?

In an effort to ensure nostalgia doesn't get in the way of customer requirements...Remember, this your recommendation for a production instrument, not a Purist PRS.

Then it’d have to be:
CU24 w/a blade switch
Silver Sky
594
Hollowbody II (for the hippie jam band crowd)
And I guess a DGT.

And all of them come in multiple shades of blue and sunburst, because that’s what seems to sell the most...

And I guess I go become an Ibanez fan boy or something, because I want none of those. :p

placeholder while I think about it. But I'm pretty sure Shawn can pull strings to make the \m/ available on the black market!

Edit: I think I’m ready.

MODEL: McCarty (for the thickness and DC)
BODY: Mahogany
TOP: Quilted maple
NECK: Honduran rosewood
FRETBOARD: Ebony
INLAY: Abalone 20th anniversary birds
BRIDGE: PRS Tremolo w/uproute
ELECTRONICS: \m/ pickups, Tremonti wiring, 3-way toggle in DGT position, individual coil splits on volumes
SCALE: 25.5”
HARDWARE: Hybrid, Phase III tuners
