Trying to decide between the two.

I’m looking for something to be used for 80’s style rock. I love the new 85-15s pickups, but I’m highly intrigued by the evh series.

The se CE standard vs evh. What’s your choice and why?

I attented to a small regional PRS owners/lovers meeting. One of the guests, who owns Paul's former backup Paul's Guitar, had a Peavey HP2 NOS with him along his Fiore.
I would prefer generally the Peavey HP2 NOS, because that particular limited batch of guitars is made of wood, Eddie once selected prior he went parted ways to start his own brand EVH.
Those HP2 NOS guitars are made in Europe.
The pickups are great either splitted or as humbuckers.
The vibrato system is recommended to be changed to a high class double locking vibrato system.

Your pair is comparing apples and peaches.
Different body type, different vibrato systems, different profiles.
No differences: They are both manufactured in East Asia, they have 6 strings.

That been said: You only need to answer the question, which guitar attracts you most.

At that price point, I don’t think I would buy either without playing the actual guitar I was buying. If the quality was there on both options, I like the nut width of the CE as well as the layout of the controls over the EVH. I have always wanted to like the EVH guitars (EBMM/Peavy), but they just don’t fit me.

The HP2s that were assembled in the US were made of parts leftover from the EVH/Peavey split. I very much doubt Ed had anything at all to do with selecting wood that sat as unassembled parts for over a decade. Once Peavey lost the license, they boxed up what they had in various production stages. It’s not as though it was anything special.

Any of the HP2s being made today, if there are any, aren’t made with US-parts. Those were used up years ago.

Peavey certifies the legit of the story of the HP2 NOS. HP2 and HP2 NOS are different production lines.

None of that changes anything I said. Once the agreement between EVH and Peavey expired, Peavey began assembling old Wolfgang parts as the HP2. Peavey tried to make it sound as though they were restarting their US guitar making, but it was just finishing old work. They shut even that down pretty fast as the company went through its downward spiral. They shipped the remaining parts over to a company in the Czech Republic who assembled the old parts and then kept producing new guitars when the old US-parts ran out.

Point is, there’s nothin particularly special or unique about any of those, unless a person is a fan of Peavey Wolfgangs and wants a newer one. Eddie was not involved beyond his well-documented involvement (and lack of it) with Peavey. He wasn’t at the factory picking wood for guitars he wasn’t going to own.

I'd agree the HP2 NOS isn't wood selected by Eddie, it's wood from that period in storage. This same wood has been fleeced on the usual sites like reverb, ebay, and CL for years. Peavey moved a bunch of this to individuals in the area too. Do we really consider anything certified by a company much more than marketing these days? We love to think what we have is "rare" and companies know that sells.

Thanks for your opinions on that.
Other brands advertise aswell with NOS. Therefore Hartley P. jumped on a running train.

I'd go with the EVH. It nails that 80s rock tone perfectly. The 85-15s pickups are great, but EVH guitars are designed for that style and playability.
