A guitarist friend had this idea that we should form an EVH and Jimi kinda, sorta tribute band. There were parameters. The idea was to play the first two EVH albums and Are You Experienced (English Version).

Not likely to happen cause we both have very active gigging bands, however we have had five practices just cause we can. For the last three months, I've gone back and really listened and learned the material. Man, we forget just how incredibility fabulous they were/are. Do yourself a favour and go back listen, learn and appreciate, and i play all this on my 2011 PRS Studio.

Sermon over (lol).

Absolutely...I was very late to the Jimi wagon...as a kid, I didn't appreciate his vocal style...absolutely love him now...Some of the prettiest clean playing you'll ever hear. And as far as Eddie, after I picked up the guitar, I went back and listened for his rhythm parts on all the earlier stuff...incredible...Thank you, and Good Sermon!!!!! PRS be with you!!!

I just listened to Women and Children 1st and Fair Warning this week while driving home. Great records for sure. The original four have that magic going on.

I too was late to the Jimi bandwagon. Great guitarist/song writer!

I used to have a bootleg recording of VH playing a dance somewhere before their record deals. Very raw but evh developed his style pretty early.

They played a lot of material that became their first album. Most of the songs had different arrangements from what got on that album.

Very cool.

IMHO - Both EVH & JH were just as good when comping as when doing their incredible solos.

Hope you have a Floyd Rose equipped axe for that EVH. If not, it's a good excuse to start shopping. :) I had 1984 on vinyl and I think it's the last record I bought before the technical advance of "cassette tape", LOL... Wish I knew where that record was? :(

What two VH albums?

Takes some serious chops to play Eddie! Jimi is more of a mindset, but on much stuff even more difficult to do and really sound like him.

Agreed. Lots of things to learn and pick up from those albums! Both of those guys, it's all about the nuances IMO. I've heard plenty of players with more "technical skill" and more than capable chops to pull things off. Most of the time it's not as simple as being able to physically play it like the "greats", it's the nuances and feel and all the little intricacies. Anyway, the point of the original post was to learn and appreciate. Preach it brutha!
