Ever hear of not disclosing serial number because it could lead to a scam?

I've seen plenty of headstock/serial number photos. Has anyone ever heard of this being a scam danger ?
A valid reason not to show the serial number?
I gather the idea is that if a scammer or other ******** has the serial number of the guitar you are selling he can mess with you in some way?
Thanks
Frank

I try to always block part of the serial numbers when I post pics. Whether the reasons you mentioned are valid or only perceived, I feel it is safer to do so, and it sure can't hurt.

I've wondered at times, whether someone could call the police, with info, description and pics, and say that you stole it from them. Sure, you might eventually prevail, but possibly go to jail if only briefly, which would suck. :( Just speculating...

Just crossed my mind.
I’m Grateful for that, Les.

all my ex wives know my birthday and social security number.

It’s ok they’ve not got your mother’s maiden name, you’re safe!;)

Not to harsh anyone’s mellow, but they probably do have all of the above. After the last large data breach, chances are good that some of your out-of-wallet answers are in the wild. But there’s nothing that says you have to give factual information for an answer. Just be aware.
