Hi guys. I've been waiting impatiently for my CU24 Artist Package and visiting the PRS official website today, I noticed that they added a line with "Etched Aluminum Truss Rod Cover" on Artist Package Standard Appointments. I'm a little confused, since when I ordered it (3 months ago) it didn't have this "option" (we can also see it on the cached page) I was wondering what kind of change was it... Thanks.

It's not anything different than it was previously IIRC. They are the same black aluminum TRCs with the etched gray model name on them. Same as always, they probably just updated your spec sheet. That being said, I believe the AP's I've received with ebony fretboards also had ebony truss rod covers, I can't recall if the BRW ones had rosewood TRC's or not though.

PRS Marketing recently changed the specs and all Artist Package models now come with an etched TRC with the model number. I got in just under the wire and received the Brazzy TRC that I wanted/expected when I ordered my guitar.

Don't know how recent that spec change is...Here's a shot of my Feb. 2013 408 Artist Package's headstock, taken by my dealer before shipping to me, showing both the hangtag with manufacture date, and the etched aluminum TRC. The headstock veneer and fingerboard are BRW, and the back of the headstock has the "USA Only" sale info.

I happen to like the etched aluminum TRC as much as anything else, not a real big TRC fanatic, so it's just an interesting detail as far as I'm concerned.

Matt King at PRS advised me of the change on April 28, 2014.

Odd that my guitar predates that change by 14 months, eh?

Maybe it was kind of random before this year. Who knows!

As I said, a TRC doesn't matter to me, I think of them as Rococo phoophery that would be better served by something like a flush mounted, hinged access door, instead of a separate thingy attached by a screw. But people seem to be attached to them as a means of customizing their instruments, so I'm definitely in the minority on this. Heck, I'm in the minority on most stuff.

One of the things I want to discuss with my next Private Stock order (that will be an electric guitar) is a carbon fiber rod instead of an adjustable truss rod, like on my acoustic. That would get rid of the whole TRC business completely.

I'd also like to have a little flip-out arm on a trem that I could operate with the heel of my palm, instead of a big trem arm that I have to attach and remove when I want to use the case.

For those who need a wooden TRC, they're available at crazy parts, and they're inexpensive. Life will still go on. ;)

Well if you spring for a Paul's Guitar, you get not one, but two screws in your TRC!

Why? Dunno...

Hmm interesting, do you know if they consider the CF truss rod for electrics? If so do you know what the charge/is there an upcharge? (if you do, shoot me a PM! ;)) I was curious about that, I really liked it in my acoustic but wasn't sure if they had done it on an electric before. :)
