My first PRS is in the mail from Sweetwater and I can't wait for it to get here. I'm a guy who likes to tinker with things and customize my stuff. On my Strat I put on locking tuners, switched out the white pick guard for a a black one, my brother gave me a set of Texas Special pups.

What are the essential or just populate mods for a SE Standard 24? I'll probably put on locking tuners and maybe some custom knobs. Anything else?

PRSes are better thought out than Fenders (I own almost equal numbers of both).

Play the guitar before you start planning how to spend more money. You just might be surprised.

There are no 'essential mods', just personal preferences. When you get it, play it. When you're done, assess what needs to be changed (if anything) and go from there.

But, if you're looking to geek-out on goodies, just for the sake of geeking-out (which I am all for):
1) Mann Made Trem
2) CTS Superpots
3) Locking Tuners
4) Strap Locks

By the time you're done with all that, you may as well have just bought a clean, used, Core Custom (or Standard) 24.

Yeah, I do enjoy geeking out on my stuff. I'm sure the guitar won't actually NEED any mods...but I just like to play around and make stuff uniquely mine. My wife always says "why can't you just leave stuff alone?"

I have modified the crap out of my SEs. Why because I love them, I’ve only played one core that I though felt better (rosewood neck) I just ordered two Mann Made 2040 trems. One has BK pickups, core volume pot, locking tuners and just went in for the core nut.

when I called Mann to order the trems, Roxanne told me that John said the core nut had a much larger effect than the trems. I always add locking tuners, cause I’m lazy. I have also put on wood back plates.

Nut, tuners, and then live with it. I love the Hipshot open back locking tuners. No additional drilling to mount them, and they’re made in upstate New York. Make sure you know the guitar before you do anything else. You probably won’t have to. And welcome. And play the snot out of it.

Lazy rules. I’m right there with ya.

Do you have a photo of a PRS with those tuners?

I dig the looks of the PRS open back locking tuners...but holy hell are they expensive.
