So I have seen this primarily with the 57/08 pickups, but can anyone explain why PRS engraves some pickups. In relation to the 57/08 I've also noticed that some are not engraved, which makes the engraving even more of an enigma. Does anyone have the story on this?

The original 57/08s weren't engraved, some call those "The Holy Grail", and they are different but yeah, tone is subjective. Next was " 57/08" then came "57/08 TM".

Yup that guitar will be a tone machine.
Don't worry about the nitro, just use a nitro safe stand, take your strap off when you put the guitar in the case and wipe it down after every time you rock it!
