So Emil and I were chatting the other night and came up with a fun little activity for you kids - he's on the road right now supporting the new Chimaira record which comes out tomorrow entitled "Crown Of Phantoms". We thought it would be fun from now until Friday for you guys to post questions you may have for Emil in this thread. Theory? Technique? Random personal shinfo? Go for it! Friday night we'll cut off the questions and Emil will film a little video response for you guys. If we get too many questions he might have to pick and choose so no hard feelings, but I don't think it will come to that. Since he is on the road right now, I will be your middleman for this event now please sit back and enjoy the show.

Also be sure to follow Emil on Facebook - its the easiest place to keep up with him since he can update it from the road.

I guess it wouldn't be fair to ask him if he feels guilty for helping incite my 7-string GAS and subsequent submission.

I'll have to put some thought into this...

Great idea! (For the Q&A, that is, not for me putting thought into my question.)

Damn where do I start ? What is he running for his current touring rig ? ( amps, pedals of course we know what guitars but pics always help ). When it comes to writing new material do you feel like you get into the whole " well this riff sounds like this other riff " and what do you do to get out of that? What is your favorite thing about PRS guitars ?

I go on Emil's jamchat Q&A he is an amazing teacher, no matter your skill level or approach to guitar.

My question is if he was offered a signature model what would it be, specs etc and why.

And

When will we hear his solo album?

I am waiting on my USB package chimaira! It is killing me waiting on the postman dropping it off

First off, thanks to Mike and Emil for doing this. Also, I am enjoying the new record. I got it on iTunes today and have been blasting it everywhere.

On to my questions...

Hi Emil...it's Jesse. \m/

I've been a Daath fan for a number of years however Crown Of Phantoms is my first Chimaira purchase. I hear plenty of Emil-isms on the new release and although similar styles to the experienced metal listener Daath and Chimaira are very different. I was wondering if you felt more at home or inspired in either situation...as a player?...as an artist?

I know you have a love for Bogner amps, especially the 20th Anniversary Shiva which is KT88 equipped. I've recently seen video from the 2013 NY Amp Show of our own Nicky Morach and his signature amp from Indigo Amps which also has a pair of KT88's. Is this an often overlooked tube? What do you feel it does to your sound and playing? Was it used on the record?

I play stop tail bridges. I get a sense of quicker attack and overall stability from them that I think is key to my sound as a guitar player. A number of your PRS's are tremolo equipped. Is this due to a preference in feel or sound or do you simply require the tremolo for your style?

The switch from 6 to 7 isn't so much intimidating as I find it is simply a different approach and sound. Was there talk of 6 dropped tuned or was the move to 7 an obvious choice for this record? Why?

How does it feel to know a fan had a PS built with your main 6'er as a guide because there is not an Emil Werstler signature model PRS? If the powers that be are reading this...get this man a signature!

Thanks for taking the time my man. See you at Experience!!!

Jesse.

Less than 48 hours before we close her up - keep the questions coming or he'll shred your face off like he did to this microphone!

What are the girls like at metal shows nowadays? I haven't been to one in ten years, is it still a sausage fest? Do you think the days of leather studded bras will ever return?
Thanks,
-Sergio

Do you prefer to use the 7th string as a lower root for chords, or for slash chords (E/B, for example)? Any suggestions for getting quicker response out of the 7th string?

I had the pleasure of meet Emil last year during Experience (thank you Mike) and had some classes. That guy can play like a few and knows how to teach. I totally recommend his classes. Just got a Chimaira album and the guitars are really impressive.
I never like hollow body guitars, but Emil started to change my mind when I saw him using one in a metal situation. I'd like to see a JA15 with trem (Emil's style) in a near future. 6 and 7 strings...
But I'd like to know what kind of pick ups he is using and why.
I am not good in putting name in music genres, but I would call Chimaira a metal band and in that kind of style is very easy to play and sounds like an exercise, like you are practicing. How does he approaches to a song, specially a solo, to avoid sounding like that.

those are very good questions too

Wish there had been more participants on this. Perhaps he will have more time per question this way.

Still slamming to the new record.
