Looking maybe getting a single cut with 53/10 and ebony fretboard. Should I expect it to be brighter than one with rosewood fretboard and 57/08 pickups?
What's your experience with the above mentioned configuration?
Thanks

I had an SC58 Artist Package with 53/10s and an ebony fretboard. And I think whether to go that route depends largely on what you're looking for. It isn't only about brightness.

The ebony board gave the note a different kind of attack than a rosewood board, even unplugged. It's a definite tone change from one with a rosewood board. It seems to absorb less of the pick attack than rosewood, so it seems brighter and more articulate. Whether that's a good thing really depends on the kind of tone you expect to get with the guitar.

I especially dug the neck pickup with the ebony board; at the same time I missed some of that midrange growl on the bridge pickup that I get with a rosewood board.

YMMV and all that. And a lot depends on the pickups. The 53/10s are less growly than the 57/08s.

Had an SC58 Artist with ebony and 53/10s. That ebony board and 2pc bridge added way to much brightness even with higher gain darker pickups. The 53/10s were better than 59/09s but still a little too bright for my taste.
