Early 2000's McCarty vs CU22 for high-gain sounds?

Dragon 2’s are great sounding pickups. Alnico 4 magnets . Bridge pickup wound to 12000+ ohms. Put a treble bleed cap/resistor in parallel on the guitar’s volume pot and they clean up nice
I didn't like the pickups in my Singlecut satin. I suspect if it had a maple cap the pickups may have worked better.
I'm tempted to see if they will fit a SE Santana I bought recently. Modify it for two volume setup with each offering coil split. Then have a 3 way mini switch to add some pre set tone roll off for either bridge or neck pickup with middle position straight. Then block the trem.

Hi.. I can see why you didn’t like them in an all mahogany guitar. The Dragon 2’s have a very sweet high end to the point where I’ve never heard another pickup that sounds like it but yea you’d need a maple top… I have a set in my Black Limba Warmoth Tele/Paul and they work well in that cause the Limba has way more high mids and highs than mahogany . 57/08’s were way to bright in that guitar

Thanks.
I'll keep the pickups as I may get a guitar that would be right for them. The Santana SE I have is all Mahogany also but I pay put one in A Pacifica I have which is for daughter to learn on.

You can always look for a DC-22. Basically a 22 fret Santana with a hard tail. There were only 75 (or 100) made, but they come up for sale on occasion. I love mine.
I think there is one or two listed on Reverb. I was tempted but I recently bought a 2002 McCarty.

If i sell my Yamaha SG1820 I could then add a little more to the funds and gey a Mcarty from 90s or early 2000s or a early singlecut with maple top. That would be me done then. Keep my pacifica for and the Santana SE Standard for my daughter who is starting to learn Guitar. She prefers my Singlecut though but not getting that yet.
