DS-02 Pickups

There’s always The One That Got Away. In my case that’s an early core-line Starla with Bigsby. 24.5” scale length. That guitar could do anything at all. Great pickups! Awesome cleans, but slather on the gain… wow. Never should’ve sold it but that’s how it goes sometimes. I’ve found the SE Starla’s to be really good and they work great for raunchy rock ‘n roll.

Here is the official word, from PRS, I emailed customer service regarding DS-O1 and DS-02:

----The Starla model was released first with “Starla” pickups, which were later used in the bridge position of the Vela. Later, we slightly increased the output of the Starla pickups, but retained the lower-output on the Vela bridge pickups, hence the difference between DS-01 and DS-02. The DS-02 is the second variation (slightly hotter output) of the Starla pickups.

We currently don’t offer the DS-01 or DS-02 pickups for individua sale. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Let me know if you have any further questions and thank you for your continued support of PRS Guitars.

Thanks for posting this info! I'd spent some time looking for this spec and never thought to ask the PTC

I read on Music Radar that on the S2 Studio the Starla Bridge Pup was turned round so that would affect the sound especially when the coil split is engaged. I own an SE Starla and it has got to be one of the most tonally versatile guitars I have owned. I do Blues and Rock and it has a lovely way of cutting through the mix. Totally recommend. Next up, I want to get an S2 Studio but that would have to be a pre-loved version I guess, unless PRS wants to release it again!
