Dragon II …. In an SE?

Will take her in tomorrow, it’ll take a couple days to get the Dragon II in and when she comes home she’s got some locking tuners arriving to fit too.

Well, the tech just mailed to say he can’t for the dragon II in the 24-08 due to the stock pups being 4 wire and d2 being 3 wire. So he basically can’t connect them to the mini toggles to split, does this sound right to anyone or he’s just not sure how to do it?

He suggested putting them in a pure humbuckers disabling the mini toggles but not really a fan of that…

Wondering this from @Simon Says would do it?

Get a new "tech" it can be done. But would need more wiring change than swapping wires one in place of the other. The toggle would effectively be wired instead of a push pull pot.

That’s my thought, first time using these guys and only using as I was buying the pups from them but yeah they seem more familiar with a clean down and setup than electrics

They do have a Custom 24 for sale however 👀 but the pups were swapped out to BK Mules

Also the rotary was swapped for a 3 way with a push /pull.. maybe I’ll take a look at it

Man the toggles are great on the 2408 if you want to be able to split each pickup independently. Otherwise with a pushpull you can split one or both unless you use two pushpulls. Which wouldn't be a solution for me on a Cu24 since a volume push pull doesn't work for me.

If I was doing this swap. Skip paying a tech and repurpose that cash to.. replace the volume pot with core. My favorite taper and higher quality than se. Swap the three way with a switchcraft. Tone pot is up to you. I'd swap to core because it comes with the capacitors I like. Keep the stock toggles. Do a fresh wiring. Oh, could also get a switchcraft jack

Pickup up a quality iron but it doesn't have to be the best if the best. There's some good middle of the road options on Amazon. Good name, heating capabilities, but not feature rich.

If it was 10-15 years ago I’d be super confident in doing it myself but PRS especially 24-08 wiring is a step up from my comfort zone, I would love to do it and that moment when she sings to feel that satisfaction or knowing a learned something and did it myself, but that’s offset by the other side of if I botch it and screw up I’m gonna be super angry with myself haha

I put the mannmade 2040 in, levelled and polished the frets, I’ve got the locking tuners coming on Monday and a new core nut but the electrics just intimidate me

I get it but you're not doing the wiring like PRS since 3 wire pickups. Not really any more difficult than having a pushpull. Easy

Most of us felt intimidated at first but once you do it you get it and then you're hooked..

Holler at me if you decide to sell the dragon 2

I ended up not taking them from the store as I didn’t want to try wiring it myself, kinda frustrated as I assumed they’d have the know how but when I picked up the guitar today he said “it can be done but should be done by someone who knows what they’re doing”

At least the guitar is back with me unscathed and should at least have the locking tuners and nut arriving tomorrow, not the overhaul I’d hoped for but small steps.

I thought unscathed, they’ve torn the wiring on the treble setting of the 3 way switch so it had zero power, off to buy a soldering iron tomorrow to fix that

Soldering the Dragon II's is not hard at all once you download the sheet that has all the PRS wire colors that's floating around.

The splits go where two soldered together split wires go on the push/pull or micro switches.
Then there's just a hot and a ground. Just less wires to accomplish the same end result!

What Glide said above, easy peasy.

Edit: The only thing to watch out for is magnetic polarity. Most Dragon II’s that I have come across are setup with one magnet flipped for the old rotary switch setup. If you install your pickups and the middle position is out of phase just flip the black and white wires on one of the pickups and you are in business.
