Wondering if anyone has ever thrown Dragon II set in a CU 24-08? Guess the wiring itself probably need to be upgraded too but anyone have experience, set of d2 for a decent price right next me

D2 are a mix bag for people. Some love em others dont. I stayed away from them for a while because of mixed reviews. Finnaly got a set. I like them but wouldn't consider them for me as an everyday pickup in my main guitar. I like the neck and splits but the bridge is more situational for me. Somedays I dig it others not feeling it so much.

I feel the same with one of my guitars loaded with D2’s…

Yeah pups are subjective I guess I mean the pups in mine do fine but lack a little warmth maybe and the split sounds “cheap”

If I could get 57/08 or 59/09 close to the price i see these I’d be all in but they’re triple here where I am

They are nothing like either of those. 5708 and 5909 are two of my top 3 PRS pickups.

The D2 neck is the same as D1 but covered and a few others, or atleast the same base pickup with a tweak here or there. Like specs are the same as McC neck. PRS used to do this alot. Same pickup modified and/or renamed. The real question to answer is the bridge. It's a hot A4.

Agree 100% the D2 pop up for a good price on the regular. If ypu watch patiently so do the others. I've paid reasonable prices for most if not all of my PRS pickups.

And on the HFS/VB trend just an old school name or an interesting choice?

I already know it’s stupid to ask these types of things as sonically people differ and have likes / dislikes but it is always nice to gather knowledge

A set of D2 for $150 seemed like a steal hence my ask haha

Treble Pickup: Alnico 4 magnet, 12k; Bass Pickup: Alnico 4 magnet, 8k

This seems about right for the D2 from what i read?

You'll be fine. Soldering is simple with a decent iron. The HFS/VB is a PRS classic. Try em both and see what you think. But.. for the price or less of both sets combined you can find 5708, 5909, or one of the best if not the best PRS pickup combos out there. 5909 bridge and 5708 neck.

I will say the 5909 in my Cu24 kill and wouldn't change a thing. One of my few guitars that's stayed stock.

I installed a set of Dragon II's in this SE Custom 24 with a 6 way Freeway blade switch (the Violet quilt guitar. Humbuckers 3 way on the down position, split coil 3 way on the up position).

You would very much love the extra two tones of the 24-08 version of this!!! Turned into a regular gigging guitar for me with the Dragon II's!!!

Lower the DII bridge pickup on the guitar a decent amount and adjust the pole pieces appropriately. That DII will knock your socks off. I find it to be a bridge pickup dying for a lowering and pole piece adjustment!

It was meh before I did that normal setup routine for me with all pickups, adjust height, then pole pieces!

Gotta find that Sweet Spot!!!
