I've been loving my CEs for the past few months. I haven't gigged my customs for some time so I thought I would take my cu24 last night. Again, I'm blown away by this guitar. I just can't say enough about 5909s. I'm going to have to have a bigger casket!

My only complaint is the painted neck. I'm really thinking about sanding the finish off. Not sure how to care for an unfinished neck.

All the time. There are one or two that I gravitate towards, but they all sound different and inspire me in different ways.

Have PTC do it. Keep your hands clean and your oils will finish it over time. You could also consider satin finishing the neck.

I had a guitar once with satin finish neck. Over time it became glossy from being used. No idea if prs satin would do the same thing.

I have been wanting to send it to ptc for the coil tap mod.

Your CEs have nitro-finished, painted necks. Just an FYI. You've probably worn the finish quite a bit. But they were originally finished.

PRS used nitro on the necks of its CEs, CU22 Soapbars, and Swamp Ash Specials. So if you like that feel, now you know how to get it. PRS now uses UV cured finishes on its maple necks.

Any satin finished neck will eventually become glossy due to your hand rubbing the neck and, in effect, polishing it.

Being more porous than maple, an unfinished mahogany neck would get pretty nasty over time.

EDIT - I forgot to answer the dang question in the OP!

My #1 definitely changes depending on mood.

My last PRS is a SC, 24.5 scale, coco neck, tremolo, and piezo. It's my only true "Swiss army knife" guitar as it does everything I want for live performance. So, recently it became number one.

Hmmmm, remove the trem, and this sounds a LOT like my #1.....if I could only remember where I got it.......

I am quite fickle in this regard. I've never ranked them, but the guitar of the moment shifts every few weeks. Partly driven by what ideas I'm playing with at the time.

Most definitely. I'll play mostly one guitar for a while. Then I'll pickup one of the others and think, man this guitar is amazing why haven't I been playing it more? Then the cycle repeats.

After purchasing what would be my number one there is nothing that has unseated it.

I think you all should POST a picture of your number 1 on this thread. Here's mine.

Unholy carp, 408N/408N/408W?!?!? AND a semi-hollowbody?!?!? AND aqua-violet inlays?!?!?

I'll be in mah bunk.

Philosophically speaking, it seems that with one geneal exception, every guitar in the stable should be a No. 1. Why own a guitar if it isn't? Who wakes up and says today I'm going to strive to be the third or fourth best I can be? The general exception is a "beater" guitar for travel or gigging in unsavory places where the risk of loss or damage is increased.
