Does a PRS with these specifications exist?

Has PRS ever made a guitar (or guitars) with these specifications?

- Stoptail
- 5-way rotary switch
- Solid rosewood neck

I don't even know where to begin looking for something like this. I can't get a hold of their older catalogs either. I would imagine the closest might be a Modern Eagle I or something, but I don't know if they still used rotary switches when that line was introduced.

Thanks!

Lots of them. The rosewood neck was a special option for many years and there were many Cu22's with a stoptail and a 5 way rotary. Find one with a rosewood neck and you have your guitar. In fact, I could put a 5 way rotary in the amber quilt in my Avatar and I would have what you are asking for. It's a Cu22 with BRW neck. All it needs is the rotary.

I hear you . The stoptail's the thing, innit?

So...yeah , start with the neck , you can't swap the neck. You can swap the other two , though, but it'd be easier if it already had one or the other , then youd only need to swap one thing .

Yeah, I've come across a bunch of 90's era CEs and Customs that have two of the three. I'm also looking into RW neck McCarty models with the idea to swap out the 3-way switch for the 5-way rotary. Beautiful guitar in your avatar, do you have more pictures of it? :)

Exactly. A stoptail would be ideal, but it's probably least priority for me. I am really interested in the idea of modding a RW neck model to include the 5-way rotary switching. I'm only interested in the switch positions, since I like the split coil series/parallel settings on the rotary switch models and not the ergonomics of it necessarily.

What is it about a rosewood neck that makes it stand out vs. mahogany?

Besides the feel, it's got a bit more oomph in the low mids, maybe a bit of sparkle in the highs that stand out...but I mostly hear it in the low mids.

Nice stuff.

Nothing recent. I probably need to take some new ones. Here is a better shot though.

You can look for a rosewood neck McCarty and then have PTC install a 5 way switch.

Okay, well that should be doable with a simple rewiring, shouldn't it? I honestly don't know, I am not entirely familiar with the series/parallel settings on the rotary switch models. What are they? Maybe I don't understand electronics, but I don't see how the ergonomics of the rotary switch would be required just to rewire some different choices.

From the PRS website, the positions from bridge to neck pickup are bridge humbucker, outer coils in parallel, single coils in series, single coils in parallel, neck humbucker (link: https://www.prsguitars.com/csc/switching.html).

What I meant in my earlier post was I don't care much for the ergonomics of the rotary switch, so I'm definitely interested in just replacing and/or rewiring the blade or 3-way toggle to use the configurations above.

Note that a guitar with a 3-way toggle probably doesn't have the 4-conductor pickup wires that the 5-way needs. So you might be looking at a pickup swap too if you try going that route.

I'd say look for Custom 22s/24s with a stoptail and rosewood neck option. They're out there.

Well...no, if they have the push-pull pickup split, don't they have to have the 4-conductor pickup wiring?

Oh, interesting, I'll have to try rewiring one of my guitars that way, that does sound desirable.

No, typically the pickups in the push-pull pot guitars have a hot wire with a braided shield, plus a separate tap wire (usually white).
