Just finished watching the 2 1/2 hour HBO documentary on Little Steven Van Zandt. Wow!!! Gotta be one of the best if not the best rock documentary I've seen. It is that good. if you love rock music, if you love soul music, if you love the human race, watch this one - a deep dive into the man and his music.

I was on the fence about watching this, you've convinced me to add it to my list. Thanks for the recommendation!
I was too, for a couple of reasons. First, I wasn't sure of the quality. Our Spectrum cable pkg includes a network called Fuse, which airs rock docs that are terrible. They barely skim the surface, and I never learn anything new by watching them.

Second, I'm normally turned off by rockers dressed up in flamboyant costumes. Sure enough, this doc starts off with Steven dressed to the hilt and playing what's gotta be one of the ugliest guitar I've seen. So, if that's a concern for you, try to get passed it. If you watch the entire show, I think you'll be knocked out by the content, just as my wife and I were.

I'm a huge Springsteen fan, so I've been familiar with Steve's style for a long time, no surprises there. But he's got some pretty strong solo albums too - Men Without Women is great, soulful Jersey rock. And Born Again Savage is straight forward, power trio ROCK! It's just him, Adam Clayton (U2) and Jason Bonham tearing it up:

Somehow, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Dukes never hit my radar screen, so hearing songs like Havin' a Party and I Don't Wanna Go Home" hit me good.

Which is kind of funny cuz when I was young, I didn't think horns had any place in a rock band. How wrong I was.

When you get a chance to see Disciple, shoot a post back to this thread and let me know what you think.
