Disappointing NGD 1986 Pre-Standard

It was a fun little adventure for me. I’m out some time, but it seems I have plenty of that. It was a very, very neat idea to be able to own such an early PRS.

I also got to try out a set of Bare Knuckle pickups, which I found pretty uninspiring. It may have been the way things were wired. Steve had said they did something with wiring the tone to the volume, and it was interactive that way. The capacitor they used was a $30 part. There was very little mean to clean to be found with the guitar’s volume knob, either through various Kemper profiles or my MDT. The bridge pickup’s resistance was 9.3k, but I have no idea what model the set was. Apparently they don’t identify that on the pickups in any way, which seems dumb.

I don’t sell many guitars once I have them, so I try to be sure I’ll enjoy I buy. Hopefully this will make someone a nice find. Somebody bought it this morning.

I agree the neck cavity is the only part that wasn't fixable. My gut says it's stable but no one can really know. Still at that price for an 86, I might have taken the chance. I'd fill the wood chipped out switch location with bondo and it would be good as new. The only risk is the neck joint. Sad to see that.

I tend to pick the sloppy seconds (guitars, mostly) and this would have been a real treat to work on.

Guitar Center you say? I got some fishin' to do.

By the way, how does GC get away with calling some of these PRS guitars "vintage"? There ain't nothing vintage about a '99 McCarty or a '96 Santana.

I think they term anything over 25 years old "vintage."

Some people feel at least 30 years old is vintage. Is my 79 Music Man Stingray 1 vintage? I am not sure about that.

The 86 PRS is sweet though in any case. Not for $2500 and neck joint questions though, speaking for me.
