Ding/Chip in Headstock

I have a new McCarty...and already put a tiny ding/chip in the headstock. It is very small, and In know that many of the responses here will be "great...you have your 1st battle scar". But that's not going to appease me!

It is on the front side, top "horn" of the headstock, just behind the rosewood laminate. I play in my basement, which has a relatively low ceiling. I was standing, and as I pulled the guitar over my head it hit the ceiling.

So...what's the fix?

Thanks, John

I just did the same thing yesterday, but on the pointy side of the headstock! Gah! Anyway, I put a drop of matching wood stain on a Q-tip and just covered up the bare wood that was showing. The small "dent" will remain, but you really can't see it unless you look. The guitar has other dings at this point, but this one pissed me off because it was just stupid...

I have yet to create a ding that wasn't stupid. The first one on a beloved guitar is always the worst -- it would bother me for days. Time heals wounds (except for physical guitar dings).

"You always hurt the one you love"

I'd just hit it with black Sharpie real quick and move on, but I suppose someone else will come along with a recommendation on how to actually fix it.

I'd probably go the stain / q-tip route as well. Not sure if there is a better fix short of sending it to PTC.

Time for a new guitar, duh.

This exactly this....seeing as how I always try to help my fellow forumite...just send that beaten and abused thing to me and I'll be happy to dispose of it properly...it will be tough because I already threw up in my mouth, when I saw the title of this post...but I'm selfless ans besides thats what forum bros are for...right;)

Sorry to c@ck block you here, Scooter, but I wasn’t suggesting getting rid of the guitar with a ding. Now jdag can play it whenever and wherever he wants since it’s ruined.

It could be like, his yachting guitar.

Well played sir...meh, dibs anyway... @jdag I'm sure once the tears dry, the puffiness around your eyes clears up and your overactive gag reflex chills...it will be just fine...I'm sure of it...besides scars give character...;)

Is the wood dented on the headstock? I can’t really tell from the photos (on iPhone).

I appreciate all of the support guys...my shrink said the same things! ;-)

As for a dent...no, it is just a little knick in the finish. You can see a very very small amount of wood underneath.

Fix? I can’t even see it. I’ve heard of OCD, even CDO, but this is beyond those. o_O LOL!

Right off the bat I will decide whether a guitar is going to be a player or keeper. Once it’s a player, dings slide off the ducks back. Adds character etc etc.

When it’s a keeper, world of hurt man, world of hurt...

Don’t let a guitar be both. That’s the key.

I play the Private Stock anywhere I play the rest of them... I take care of them, but I bought them to play in, out, and everywhere in between...

I can hardly even see it

I really would leave it

But if you can't help trying to fix it, a tiny superglue repair could work. Just mark it with black ink of some sort, and use a tiny dab of water thin CA

And hope it doesn’t run down the headstock. Not that I’m speaking from experience.

What he said.
