I have a dilemma. I have a lovely MC58 Artist. I love the looks, weight, feel, and action of this guitar. But I am not bonding with the tone of the 57/08s (sacrilege, I know). I prefer the Dragon IIs in my CE22, but it's the weight that kills me (1.2 pounds heavier than the MC58).

For the most part, I run it through a Boss GT-100 directly into the sound board, or into a Peavey Stereo Chorus or Bandit running clean. The MC58 just sounds harsh/hollow to me at times.
Should I keep messing with the settings until I find it, or put the MC58 up for trade locally, or sell it outright.
If letting it go, what would be a good alternative? 408? DGT? Other ideas?

Thanks is advance.

Well, if the CE22 with Dragon IIs sounds great in your rig compared to the MC58, why not swap out the pickups in the MC58 for a set of Dragon IIs?

+1

I too have a MC58 artist and I have to say I would like to try the 58/15 pickups in it. I love the 57/08 in my other core guitars. but it is not as inspiring in the MC58. I was even tempted to try McCarty pickups in it and see what tones I get, but like you maybe considering a sell. But for the moment I am just pondering what other pickups will sound right. I scored a 10 top sc awhile back and the previous owner had a mira neck and tremonti bridge in it. I rewired it per prs schematic and was blown away. But, wanting to get it back to spec, i put 57/08's in it and was less excited about the bridge 57/08. I am thinking, keep the neck 57/08 and place in a hotter bridge. 59/09 or a tremonti. This is what I might do to the MC58 also.

Change the pups. I made the mistake of moving a really killer guitar, ME Quatro, because I did not like the 53/10's in it. If I had sucked it up and bought a set of 59/09's I would probably still have it now.

If you're simply not happy with the pickups, why not just change them instead of selling off a guitar that's good to play?

I posted this link in another thread which may help, I hope. It might save your MC58.
