Can anyone tell me what the differences are in terms of spec between the 2014 Core Custom 24 and the current model?
Thanks.

Vastly different pickups, the 2014 will have full on humbuckers that were being used in production at the time whereas the current model will have the smaller footprint TCI pickups that are found in he Paul's guitar. The current is also only available with a Pattern Thin neck and the controls are physically laid out a little differently and if I recall correctly, the earlier 24-08 had a three way blade switch rather than a toggle.

That's the 2408. He asked Cu24.

Thanks guys.
So, what pickups are in the CU24 2014 and current models?
5-way switch same configuration?

Oops, I'm insufficiently caffeinated at this hour. Pickups and lack of choice in neck profile will be the difference. For 2014 the pickups would likely be the 59-09 up until the very tail end of the year when they may be 85-15.

I'm going to guess 5909 were mostly used in 2014.

My 2011 has round bobbin 5909 and it's a fantastic guitar.

8515 should start with model year 2015.

Of course, I could be way off base too so.........

You're right. My link above confirms. HfS/VB was an option

Thanks guys. I just bought a 2014 CU24. It has Radioshop PAF pickups fitted, but supplied with the originals as well.
Does anyone know about the Radioshop ones? How do I tell what the originals are? Will they have a label?

Raidoshop PAFs are new to me; how do they sound?

Stock PRS pickups usually have some form of stamp on the baseplate identifying "bass" and "treble."

Personally, I believe the stock PRS pickups are the best fit, as the company is always striving to improve and building pickups to suit the specific guitars.

The best thing you could do is live with the guitar as it is currently (with Radioshop pickups) for at least a few months. Then determine what you like and don't like about them. Then reinstall the original pickups and do the same thing. This way you'll have a better understanding of the guitar and what you'd like to get out of it.

As a side note, the current Custom 24 pickups are fantastic, and you can often find them for sale on line ;)

Congrats on the new guitar!

Thanks. It won't arrive till Tuesday so I can't tell what the Radioshops are like. Here is a link to the original pickups. Look like 59/09s?

Thanks. I guess I'll just have to be patient and wait till Tuesday. I thought (wrongly?) that the HFS/VBs were rounded at the corners.

Radioshop are highend UK boutique pups. May like em. May not? But if those are 5909 in the case I'd be pulling the RS and popping them in immediately. If the HFS/VB I'd personally wait and test drive the RS. But 5909 not even a question. Put em in!!!

Congrats!

Agreed......5909 pickups are fantastic.

So, I received the guitar earlier, and the good news is that they are 59/09 pickups.
The original owner highly recommends the Radioshop PAFs over the 59/09, and, yes, I know it's personal opinion thing. My question is, as I can't solder to save my life and would have to go to a local luthier to do any swapping out, have any of you guys actually had any experience of these Radioshop PAFs?

Not that model directly but they are LT or lower turn/output PAF. Solid UK boutique company. I'd say they are along the lines of a5815LT.

But.. I do have a lot of experience with 5909 including specifically in the Cu24..pure perfection. I can't imagine anyone pulling them. There's another pickup junkie that commented in this thread who feels the same way. We both tweak pups in everything and agree the 5909 and Cu24 is a guitar we'd never touch. Soldering is easy and plenty of tutorials out there. It's fairly inexpensive to have done but give it a go. Just get a solid soldering iron.

The truth is the only opinion that matters is your ears, rig, and playing style. Give the radioshop a go. If they work for you they work.
