We're on 'vacation' this week, staying with my sister-in-law ('vacation' because this is never a relaxing trip for me because my brother-in-law is an obsessive neat freak - to give you an idea, on a previous trip, I got up to go to the bathroom and came back maybe too minutes later to find my newspaper had been taken to the garage and sorted into the recycling bins - but beside the point).

Last night, my wife wanted to walk down to the beach to watch sunset. Walking down the street, I started to hear a thumping noise, and sure enough, about halfway down, there was a band practicing in what looked like a detached building at one of the houses. On the way back, we stopped and listened for a bit. Nice to find kids still doing the old school way. I thought about walking in and knocking on the door, but then I thought a strange old guy popping in uninvited might not be the most welcome thing.

You should have stopped in...I've done that a few times and only felt awkward maybe once...but I think most musicians love to hear somebody cares about what there doing...than again, I have Never been accused of being bashful..LOL!! actually stopped by a fire house in Slough, England to talk with a blues -rock band practicing.

I remember bangin it out in the garage & basement back in the day w/my high school band. That age of discovery. Writing and creating with other people for the 1st time. Good memories, thanks partner.

We used to play in my mother's dining room (or my drummer's basement). I've reconnected with my old drummer lately, and I told him we were so loud and so bad that we gave one of my mother's neighbors Lou Gehrig's disease. (It's true that he died from that, but no connection to our playing has actually been proven.)

We weren't able to walk the last couple nights because of the weather, but we took one last walk down the street this morning. Heard someone (not the band) practicing. Very cool to hear from the outside (as opposed to being the one making the noise!).

Now it's just a matter of hours until I can be the one banging away again!
