I was in Des Moines a couple weeks ago and stopped in to GC.

They had two core prs and one of those was a gold top dgt.

I normally don't play stuff in GC mostly because there is usually half a dozen kids trying out guitars all at the same time and its hard to hear what a guitar or amp is doing through all of that.

Two things.........first, a kid was trying out some OD pedals through a fender combo and it caught my ear. The pedals sounded good through that fender? ? I normally don't achieve good results with OD pedals but what this kid was doing actually sounded decent.

I asked to play the DGT through those same pedals and amp. I was pleasantly surprised.

It really wasn't hard to get a decent tone out of that setup and could tell the DGT is a guitar that could work for me.

So my take away ? First, I need a DGT and second........I need to explore this fender thing a little more.

I actually have a fender tube amp at my house that belongs to a friend of mine. He let me try it a year ago but says I can just hang on to it for a while. I didn't really bond with it when I tried it but maybe it needs a 2nd chance????

Anyway, I have officially started a DGT fund!

DGT is the best "rock bridge pickup" guitar I've ever played. Grissom is on the bridge 99% of the time.
The coil splits aren't great, but no one's are. Makes it very versatile for bands needing different tones.
The only thing I am changing on mine (and it's not a change, it's an addition) is a Tremol-No, so I can use drop D on a couple of tunes.

Not a fan of the 2022 finish tho, whatever it is... some like of lacquer over poly nonsense. Mine went back to PTC for warranty repair once within 2 months of buying it new, and I think the issue is stating to happen again... if they tell me they need to refinish it, I'm gonna' just ask for pure poly.

I hear ya. my ‘22 DGT finish is really more fragile. …I try to be real careful with that one.
I love the poly finish on my old ‘93 Custom 22 and ‘12 P-22, and my Santana SE poly finish is great as well. Not to thick……They all still look new and get lots of playtime in recordings and live.

I’m the last one who should be saying this as it took me 5 years, but @Rider1260 is not wrong.

Do they do “4 month layaway” or something? ;)
In all honesty, I can easily afford to buy a new DGT but wife and I are just tucking away money like crazy in a final push towards retirement.

We have a plan so I don't feel right just dipping into one of our accounts for a new guitar purchase.

It is taking a lot of will power as there are a ton of cool guitars out there.

Hey I’m just teasing my brother.

I’m a cautious person and I totally respect and understand.

I sympathise on the temptation as well.

Your restraint is admirable.

So... have you bought it yet?

I have a DGT in a color that was done by Wildwood and I think is only 5 guitars. I like it a lot.

On to the OD pedals and amps. I have played Fender amps and amps with Fender circuits in them most of my time as a guitar player. Most OD pedals sound good through them but some do not. All Fender amps are not created equal either. I would stick to a Twin Reverb, Hot Rod Deluxe or Deluxe. All of these are good sounding amps. The way I have them listed goes from higher to lower power. I am not sure what your playing situation is. I actually have two of these models that I am thinking about selling. Too bad you were not in South Florida.

I am kind of an OD pedal junkie. I have a bunch of them. My process has been that if I try an OD pedal and I like it, I keep it. There will be a day when I am looking for that tone again. I also like having them for use with different amps. Some pedals just sound better with a Fender circuit and others sound better with a Marshall circuit.
