DGT Questions

Anyone with a DGT or DGT experience...

just how big are the frets?

are the stock strings .11's?

any issue just playing plain old .10-.46's on one?!?

what is the neck carve/profile closest to? Pattern, Pattern Regular, etc.

The frets are are big...jumbo. If you prefer old Fender teeny tiny frets, this won't suit you, but they play very smoothly and comfortably. The stock .11s are the perfect blend for bending and HUGE tone, well worth giving your fingers a workout. I play 10s on nearly everything else but vastly prefer 11s on a DGT. The DGT neck carve, as I under stand it, is a modded pattern regular but IMO, it's its own thing. Go visit the GC in Cinci and tell Ron I sent you.

It's my #1 gig bride and simply love it.

Yeah - I'll be going to Ron! I drive him crazy I'm sure, but he's a great guy!

They have a nice Frost Blue DGT I've got my eye on, but there's also a couple others I'm interested in and I'm trying to research it out before hand so I go in there with a game plan of what to test out so I'm not 1) in there all night and 2)driving Ron more nuts than I already do!

So you don't mind jumping back and forth between .10's on your other guitars and the .11's on the DGT? The frets on my new Paul's Guitar feel a little bigger than the others, maybe the DGT's are more like that than not. I'm not a big fan of the tiny Fender type frets, but I had a Carvin that had Jumbo stainless on it and they seemed a bit big.

I'll definitely try out the DGT when I go in there.

Everything he said. It's the first guitar I've ever had with jumbo frets and I absolutely LOVE them. I don't know how to compare it to the Pattern carves, but the most noteworthy thing about the DGT neck carve is that it's narrower across the fretboard than the usual PRS carves. That's huge to me because I have fairly small hands.

Just play one. I think you'll love it!

Not a bit. The combination of scale length, fret size, string gauge, and setup results in an über-comfortable playing guitar. I won't lie: as much bending as I do thru our setlist, the 11s did take a little adjustment at first, but the payback is huge. But as far as finger pressure and simply fretting notes on the neck, it's a dream. With the right amp the sound/tone is massive. I constantly get compliments, especially from other musicians.

BTW, Ron is a AAA classy guy. Few others have his knowledge and experience and are willing to share it like he does. He won't steer you wrong. And he won't hand you a guitar that isn't perfect...he's possibly the most discerning tech I've met. That's a good thing.

Agreed...I've been dealing with Ron since the GC was over at the Forest Fair Mall location...have bought a LOT of stuff from him! I could hang out in GC and talk with him all day too...super knowledgeable!

You have any tuning issues with the trem? I'm a fixed bridge kind of guy usually, and haven't played my own Studio model with the trem much yet (haven't had it very long).

As much as I hate to admit it, it's looking like my next trip in there is going to take awhile - there's a few I have my eye on and I'm just going to have to spend some time with each of them to make up my mind. There's the DGT, a Swamp Ash Studio, a McCarty Anniversary something or 'nother with two Narrowfields in it, and a 408 (though the 408 is a little more than I'm looking to spend). It's funny - the last couple of times I've gone to look at a particular PRS, a totally different one really speaks to me and I end up with that one. That's how I ended up with both my P24 Limited and the Paul's Guitar.

I have a Mira X coming in on Friday to Ron's location but I'm going to just turn right around and do a return for credit on it to use for the new purchase because I found a regular Mira for $50 less at a different location that's on it way and should be here tomorrow...would rather keep the Mira and return the Mira X obviously. I also have a $950 GC Gift Card to put towards the new one.

Anyway - thanks for the info/advice. (you going to the PRS event at the Indy Hard Rock thursday?!? Ron said he's going - not sure if I'll be able to go yet.)

To add a bit to what Boogie said, yeah, you can feel a bit of difference with the 11s, but it's not as severe as you'd expect. The jumbo frets make a difference here. It's a very easy playing guitar. The only time I really notice the frets is sliding up a string. Tone-wise, it's monstrous. And the neck, for me, is just about perfect. It feels like it just disappears in my hand.

That said...the 408s are really sweet...:vroam:

I went from 9's to the dgt 11's and didn't notice a difference really. Tone wise...huge. Love my dgt and the jumbo frets. I don't think you can go wrong with a dgt or a 408 . Plays and sounds like how I wanted to sound in my head if that makes sense.

I call my dgt , the LP killer lol.....
