DGT Question

I have a 2019 DGT. Serial number show it was made in late 18. It's body is thinner than the McCarty I have. Everything I see and read about the DGT says the DGT is the same thickness as a McCarty. Does this change based on year, or is it a random/special thing?

The DGT was built on the McCarty "platform". A guitar Dave spec'd out with PRS actually became the McCarty. Of course, the DGT evolved out of changes DG made through the years and specific ideas for his signature guitar. The specs don't "typically" change from year to year but PRS does tweak things from time to time. Also, those guitar bodies are all hand-sanded so depending on which employee was sanding that day, there can be slight differences. The necks are hand-sanded as well. I have two DGT's from 2008 and the necks on each are slightly different. One neck is a little smaller and the shoulders are shaped differently than the other. PRS is more consistent than most companies making instruments. But, with human involvement in the construction of the guitars, you're going to see some differences here and there.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not saying you were implying this, but this is not a sanding issue. The case for my McCarty is noticeably bigger.

Interesting topic. I have not compared the guitars I have. I know my Ted and SC-58 are very thick bodied guitars. I have a few that I could check but haven't done that to see how they compare that are double cuts. After reading this thread, I may have to pull them out and look.

Website says it's 1 21/32", but for whatever reason, that feels too narrow for me on a PRS. I play 1 5/8 Strats no problem, but I prefer 1 11/16" myself also.
