Hi, I hope this is the right place to ask. I own a one man repair shop and do refrets and repairs that our local shops don't handle. I have a client (collector) who has numerous guitars and I do all of his repair work. He just bought a used PRS DGT, which is fantastic. But, someone already tried to replace the nut and they used one that is a little less wide than the neck, and the string spacing is off. I'm not sure who did it, but it is not cut properly at all. I need to replace it. I believe it is 1 & 21/32" wide, at least from converting my caliper measurements of 1.656, which is dead on for 1 21/32". My question is, which replacement nut should I use? I can't find anything locally that fits, or anything in my stock. He'd like an original or a TusqXL nut. Do I contact PRS? Will they sell me a nut? Does anyone here have one to sell? Is there a perfect nut from a manufacturer like Tusq that is the right string spacing and width? I can cut a new one from bone, but he doesn't want a bone nut. I would prefer to got with the "unobtanium" that PRS uses, but where do I get the correct nut for a DGT? I've been repairing guitars for over 30 years and know there won't be a perfect drop in and I will have to cut slots, but if there is somewhere that has a good starting point, I'd love to know. The DGT is just a little different than my 6 PRSi. So, any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob Long

Here's what I know. David Grissom, himself, replaced the 'stock' PRS nuts on his own gigging signature guitars(because I asked him) with(and I quote)..."A variation of Delrin that lasts longer and is good for keeping the trem in tune". We didn't ask the him where he got them because I believe that would be something he'd like to keep to himself. You can also purchase a pair made from the latest material from the PRS Website. And I've used one of those to replace an old one in my 2000 McCarthy. It fit perfectly since it was cut for '10's'.
