DGT dud?

I've had my DGT for over a year now, and I am really struggling with it's playability. I love almost everything else about it. I don't know if it's the string gauge, jumbo frets, or what but the action is higher than any other PRS I've had over the past 30 years. I've had 11's on other guitars, so I don't think that's it. I've had it setup twice by the best luthier in the area. I even went as far as to drive a couple of hours to a shop that had one in stock to compare - it sold an hour before I got there.
Any one else have this issue? It's not terrible, just not what I'm used to with PRS.

It might be the big frets. The one thing I didn't like about my old Ted McCarty's was the frets were huge.

I avoid jumbo frets like the plague. Even with low action they feel painful to me. I just have too much finger pressure, and all that space between the string and the fretboard = a painful playing experience.

The 11’s shouldn’t be a factor unless you were a 9’s guy coming into it. The setup and big frets made me forget for the most part that they were 11’s.

This Was My Initial Thought. If You Aren't Used To Them They Really Make Everything Else Feel Very Different.

Bought it new. I think I'll trek out to the PRS dealer a couple of hours away again and have them take a look at it. Can't hurt at this point.

@Whackmaster Here ya go... unfretted and fretted at the 12th. took ones of both sides of the 12th with it fretted.

Very possible. I'm not real sensitive to fret size or neck carve at all. I'm weird...

Try 10’s on it. You hear lots of people saying that the DGT makes 11’s feel like 10’s on other guitars. That’s bull****. They feel like 11’s on a guitar with jumbo frets. I much prefer mine with 10’s (10-49/50 or 10-52) and I’m mainly in Eb tuning.

It’s funny. I’m the opposite. It has been difficult for me to bond with most PRS guitars. Until I met my DGT. Absolutely love the way it feels and its playability…and I’ve disliked larger frets on every other instrument I’ve ever tried. That said, I now also love the feel of my NF 53. I keep trying other things and just don’t feel connected. 594s, Paul’s Guitar, Semi-Hollow Special, Hollowbody, Silver Sky…just don’t do much for me. But, give me my DGT and or my NF 53 and I am a happy guy all day long. I think neck carve is also a huge part of the equation.

Adjust your neck relief. Then adjust your string height at the saddle to your preferred height.

Same. Had 10s when I got it. Been running 11s since and may go back to 10s.
