Does anyone have any suggestions on how to foots witch the bright and boost switches on a DG Custom 30? This was a feature added to the DGT15 and would be useful on the Custom 30. On the surface, it seems it would be a fairly simple DIY wiring project but the devil is always in the details.

Anyway, thanks for any suggestions.

I'd talk to Doug Sewell about it, or at least email him, before undertaking the mod.

Doug told me that the DG30 is a pretty complicated build, and difficult to put together. He might have some insight.

I just walk a few feet to mine and use the switches. But I also control the gain and treble with the controls on my guitar, and use a boost pedal and an EQ pedal for certain things.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for reaching out to PRS Guitars. The DG30 is designed and built very old-school. It would have to have some fairly complicated changes/additions done to allow for this type of mod. We recommend possibly trying an EQ pedal (preferably with a boost function) in front of the amp. I'm sorry we are unable to assist you with the modification.

Kind regards,
Bindu

Not surprising at all. It’s not designed to work that way. Using a boost pedal as mentioned in my post does work well.

It might be a bit Rube Goldberg-ish, but servos could be used to accomplish that. It wouldn’t be pretty, but it wouldn’t require much modification to the amp itself. Something could probably be rigged up to control the dials, too.

Ive got an amp tech locally that can do it. I just wanted PRS to weigh in prior to making that decision.
If I go forward Ill share my results.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Greywolf, I use the same. The ep boost has become my core lead tone.

If the amp didn't sound so good in its "clean mode" I wouldn't care. I don't think many people are aware of how good this amp sounds without the boost. With the amp boost on I just roll the volume back to 6-7, play softly and it stays on low side of edge of breakup.

We play a lot of stuff that moves from rock (boost on) to reggae (bright clean) to latin (either) back to rock.... Having a cleaner clean option live would be useful. Also, I like to attempt to build tension by starting clean and adding layers of gain with a little increase in volume as the song progresses. The DG30 gives me that is spades. I just wanted to get it started with a cleaner clean. Call this a nice to have, not a have to have
