So I have been GAS'ing for a strat type PRS and there is the 305 and DC3 but the DC3 is a bolt on so I think it might be a better solution. Anyone have one or both of these and can offer me some insight?

There are few of either of these available second hand so are they 'keepers' or did they just not sell enough of them to warrant a strong second hand market?

I think they are great. It's definitely on my short list of ones to get soon. Nice bell like single tone sounds with some good snap too. A buddy of mine has one and raves about it quite a bit.

I have not tried a DC3 but have a 305 and it is everything I would want in a single coil guitar a bit fuller ( darker ) to my ear than most Strats also has a nice full neck and mine is my lightest PRS

Love mine. Very nice single coils tones.

I've got to hear the story behind that gorgeous DC3

Back in 2010 when the new models were announced (DC3, NF3, JA5, MC58, SC58) I think PRS UK commissioned one each in private stock guise. At the time I was flush from an inheritance, and managed to pick up 3 of the 5. I lucked out, as while some of the new models did not prove that popular, they were very good. The NF3 and DC3 remain among the most underrated PRS models in my experience. The DC3 is not a strat. But if you already have strats covered, its a very nice single coil design. I also loved the 305 so much I had me own Private Stock made.

Let me ask you, sound aside which 'feels' better? When they hang and play does the bolt on differ from the glued in? I know their is a scale difference but wonder about the feel of them while hanging and in hand. I wish I could try them both but will likely have to pick one and buy online.

The DC3 is the most strat like in my opinion. The 305 is more like a 513 without the extra switches. TBH he 305 is probably dearest to my heart as a PRS. It has its own character. As i said, if you want a straight strat, buy a strat. The beauty of the DC3 and 305 is what they add to the mix. Feel wise they are pretty similar. Bolt vs set neck does not seem to really add up to much. Its just the 305 feels more PRS, the DC3 more Fender.

What about slapping some singles in that pink CE you got lounging in a closet? Could be a consideration.

Yeah! Like a set of these!!!!

I've got a set waiting to go in that Salmon CE body if a neck ever shows up. One of these days.....

You guys had to go and do it dint ya......remind me that I am slacking on finishing my beast.......I actually had it out the other day look g through the parts pile and discovered it has a one piece trem. Was pleasantly surprised at that.

As for the DC/305 feel thing I love the feel of a strat but prefer the playability of a PRS, makes me lean towards a DC3. But I prefer the looks of the 305.

Only one thing to do; get hammered, tear up the CE and before you pass out order a DC3 and a 305!

No... it's not like that. Some things just take as long as they take, you know?

I only suggested it 'cause you already know you're down with the CE. I really really wanted to fall in love with the 305 and NF/DC series guitars people have been gracious enough to let me paw at, it's just they're kinda different.
