DC245 compared to Cu24

Hi,

I am an acoustic player and am looking to add electrics to my songwriting. I have demo/played a DC245 and a CU24 and am curious, can the CU24 produce the same tones/feel as the DC245 through its pickups? Is that something that can be done with the right amp or pedals?
Thanks

The scale for sure will make it feel different. Sounds will likely be a little different as well. Same pickups in each?

Clean, low gain or higher gain tones? Cu24 is a very different beast than the DC245 IMO. The shorter scale length generally gives the 245 a warmer sounding tone while the Cu24 is more mid focused and modern sounding. The newer Cu24s have 85/15s which while higher output are rather sweet sounding but will still sound brighter than a DC245 all else equal. Cu24 has a thinner body as well and typically a thinner neck, tremolo versus stoptail. All will impact tone and feel.

I will probably be looking primarily for clean tones, I guess what I am trying to determine is, long term, will I be able to utilize the CU24 more tonality than the DC245? I didn't "feel" any giant difference in the necks although they are different. I will probably need the warmer tone if I intend to sing/play the PRS alone like I do with an acoustic.
I'm sure I am asking very basic questions, I liked both guitars although I liked the sound of the DC245 more and the feel of the CU24 more. I was hoping to be able to replicate the sound and sort of get a one sized fits all electric. I guess if that was possible they wouldn't make so many different models.

The pickups are 85/15 in the CU24 and I believe they are called "soapbox" in the DC245. At least that's what I think, they look like bars of soap, the person at GC didn't know much about the DC245 as it was used.

Those are P90s/soapbar pickups you’re talking about. Very different animal from the 85/15. If you liked the tonal aspects of the DC245, get it. The CU24 is just cut from a different cloth. Even my SE245 with Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbuckers is way different from my CU24. Both are great guitar doing different things.

Ok knowing you’re looking at a DC245 soapbar vs a Custom 24 with 85/15’s id say you would be quite hard pressed to get the same sounds out of the two guitars.

I agree with Boogie and Bowtie - P90s are a different sound altogether from humbuckers and EQ shaping will only go so far. Assuming you can get along with the neck carve differences, sounds like you prefer the DC model.
