I've been waiting and waiting and waiting for my guitar. I ordered a 24-08 Artist Package in copperhead burst with a rosewood neck back in 2017. It's supposed to arrive this July.

In the mean time I (of course) peruse dealer pages and Reverb and I've found two other guitars I REALLY want:

I'm NOT going to be able to afford the 24-08 and then buy one of these SC 594 models, but dammit I'm sorely tempted.

That top one - wowzer! I already have a SC594, but that's almost enough to make me buy a second. I love a cherry burst SC.

I love my 24-08, but I gravitate more towards anything with McCarty on its name. The warmth, the neck and the fixed bridge is what I usually grabs my attention. Tough call. Though, I think it's hard to beat the coil split/tap on a 24-08.

Now this is a great looking guitar and love the Rosewood Neck too...

I went with the double cut just because it was a PRS so I wanted it too look more PRS - however, if I had seen this first, and in the UK, I my have gone with this instead - its certainly the right colour!!

The 594 has exactly the same number of options as a 24-08. Instead of the Mini Toggles that the Custom has, the 594 has coil splitting via the Push/Pull tone pots. Arguably the mini toggles are a bit easier then the Push/Pull tone pots but that still gives '8' different options from the 3-way switch - just like your 24-08...

There are obvious differences between the two - the thicker body of the 594, different scale length, different neck, only 22 frets, no Trem and of course the different Pick-ups. The 58/15 LT's are more 'vintage' compared to the more modern 85/15's....

You're absolutely right in that you get the same number of options, but I was merely talking about the quality of the coil split/tap of the 24-08. It is absolutely phenomenal and has an extremely authentic single coil sound. Not necessarily strat sounding, as it has its own mojo and character, but undoubtedly a single coil sound nonetheless. More so than a regular CU24, which is saying a lot, although the regular CU24 is a bit more strat like to my ears. My 594 arrives tomorrow and I'll have a chance to compare the two. It's hard to imagine a more authentic single coil sound to the 24-08. Because I think the 24-08 is up there with Paul's guitar and the 408. Honorable mention to the S2 Mira, which to my ears also has an amazing coil split/tapped sound. With that said, my McCarty sounds absolutely amazing when split, just not as jaw doping amazing and epic as my 24-08. If it were me making the choice, I'd probably go with the 594, but that's not necessarily the best for OP.

You're the first one I thought of when I saw that :)

Man, is both of the guitars pictured sounded and played identical, for identical prices, I would resort to a coin toss

Especially Japan and recently, Germany. Somehow the best guitars land up there.

Just as an update, the Fire Red burst one has a price drop. Sigh......

They sold one to me that very same way... I was watching it, the price went down, I jumped on it. Maybe I was stupid, but it worked for them (and I've ogled that very axe myself more than once).

Congratulations on finding only two.

At least you've got one incoming. I feel somewhat tortured by the internet every day. There's this SC 594 that's been haunting me for a long time and my hands are tied.

I am just thankful I am in the UK and relatively skint too after buying my Hollowbody ii back in January. If I lived in the US, I would be looking at what I can trade in, what I can sell to have the funds to buy this SC 594 in Fire Red with a Rosewood neck. I could very easily consider trading in my Core DC 594 - a guitar I love but does have a standard mahogany neck - for this.

I actually prefer the Double Cut too as I think its more 'PRS' this way and not a 'Gibson Les Paul' - not that I have any issues with Gibson at all and would happily own the right one. The 594 has the 'LP' layout and its the layout that I am most familiar and comfortable with - another reason why I love my 594. I am also not someone who is used to using the 'dusty' end so access wasn't necessarily a concern - I just wanted my PRS 594 to look more like a PRS - and it looks like it belongs with my 509, Cu24 & HBii as well. Despite that, I would still seriously consider trading in my DC594 for this and its Rosewood neck!
