I just got a CE24 in a custom color. My understanding from the dealer is these are offered to dealers that sell a good amount of guitars, but I have a few questions. Is there anything more to that? Is there any way to find out exactly what it is? I think it’s River Blue, but I’m not certain. Whatever it is, it’s gorgeous.

Whale Blue Smokeburst.

Beautiful Guitar.
Ah, ok. I thought all the smoke bursts faded in from black at the edges. And thanks!

And seeing the other picture it definitely isn’t as light as the River Blue. I just saw a eBay auction that looked like the same color that said River Blue. Based on that picture, the one in that auction isn’t either.

You could also say possibly Whale Blue Microburst. Hard to tell from a photo. Microburst is when the black edge is real thin and fades quickly into the main color. Smokeburst tends to be a little larger at the edge and ever so slightly fades deeper into the main color.

As best I can tell it’s just darker blue to the edges. The back is blue as well so it just looks like it wraps around to the front. The finishes are gorgeous but they’re hard to accurately photograph.

I feel like I have often seen them take a standard color and then spice it up on occasion by smoking the edge of the body with an expected or unexpected color. (But only on Fridays.) I think that experimentation is how they came up with finishes like "Bruise Burst" and others in similar fashion.

I had a custom color custom 24 and PRS customer service said they don’t give them names, just custom color. I know sometimes they give a finish that doesn’t usually have binding like black gold burst binding and they call that a custom color. I’d agree with whale blue smoke burst though, beautiful guitar!

I was wondering if that might be the case too. I looked at the modcat thread and noticed the color codes had a CC for custom color.

I really like some of those crazy burst finishes that I’ve seen. I really wish I could get my hands on one of those grey blue bursts where it’s blue around the edges and grey in the middle.

That's a stunning guitar Josh. Coincidentally I've just ordered a CE24 described as whale blue smokeburst from a retailer here in the UK, so sounds like I'll be in good company! According to the shop, the colour sprayers are given license to create some custom colours once they've completed the stock orders, and these only go to retailers that can sell a fair few of them. It should arrive next week and will post pics when it does.

My Custom 24 is described as a custom colour in violin amber smokeburst. Not sure how true this is, but I haven't been able to find many others despite searching!

Thanks! This one definitely seems a little different than ones I’ve seen before. Seems like there’s a touch of green in there as well. They definitely do some awesome finishes.
