Hey guys,
Would the gain structure/eq controls on this amp be considered "casgading"? If I want to emphasize upper mids, would I use less mid eq and more treble or presence, or more mids control?

Cascading gain is a different thing. But of course in most tone stacks, the treble control is the most important because everything passes through it, and then the middle control, and then the bass. So they interact in most amps.

Cascading gain is a Dumble, Two-Rock, Bludotone, and certain Mesas thing. Totally different idea.

Thanks LSchefman, I know the eq is quite powerful on the C50, wasn't sure how it went about it.

No problem! I was really into cascading gain amps, and was a Two-Rock devotee for ten years or so until I stumbled on PRS amps. The cascading gain thing can create some very wonderful tones.

But I wound up digging the more classic tones of the HXDA and DG30, and just love them.

I do really like my C50. I picked it up used, in mint condition. Though I'm still playing with it...getting it dialed in. A couple of things I really want to do is one, get a head shell made for it. As a combo, it's quite heavy. I've got a couple of 1X12 cabs to try with it, and a few speaker choices. Mine came with a Celestion 70/80. I haven't heard anyone else mention this speaker with theirs.

Cascading gain stages can be fun, but there is a GOOD reason why Mesas are sometimes looked down and called a "tweakers" amp.

So true at times. Yet I still like them. Not as much as I'm into the PRS CAD amps, perhaps, but Mesas still have a place in my heart.

This is going to seem a little off-the-wall, but my favorite thing about Mesa amps is what great rhythm guitar amps they are. There's a lot of compression that seems to work so well for big chords, and makes them sit in a mix nicely coming right off the mic without a lot of tweaking.
