As a new owner of a Core Custom 24, I was surprised after watching the PRS videos on this guitar that on toggle switch 2, the back pickup stays humbucking while on toggle switch 4 it's single coil. I thought in 2 and 4 mode, both pickups were single coil. I really like the sound I get on toggle switch 2 but wonder their reason for not making the back pickup single coil mode like the 4th position.
Any ideas?

It was I believe to be like a tele more than a strat tone. It is less noisy as plus.

I use it a bit but do not prefer it. I like my 3 way with pull for tap and using the neck pup alone tapped.

If both pickups were split wouldn't position 2 and 4 sound the same? Unless it's different coils or series as opposed to parallel.

That said, I really don't like position 4 much on a Custom 24 with 85/15. It's not bad, but way too trebly compared to the other sounds on the guitar, it doesn't mesh well.

I much, much prefer the sounds on the old rotary switch.

^ I agree with the rotory use and sounds, I’m a fan. That said my least favorite position of the rotary is the #4 position which is both outside coils of each hum. So on the five way it’s also the #4 position I like the least. All this and I finally figured out (at least for me) a few things after playing PRS guitars for 30+ years. I like/use two hums and for the most part just use the neck split with the bridge full hum. So on a MIK Singlecut that has 57/08’s I just split the neck only via tone push/pull and that seems to be my sweet spot for all the usable tones I’ll ever use or need. And I just use the tone push/pull for splitting the neck only it’s not connected to the pickup(s ) at all. Guess I’m not a tone toucher and never have been.

True, but the rotary also generally comes with the HFS and VB pickups that - to my taste - split better than the 85/15s.

It's kinda funny: older ones have better intermediate sounds, but kinda boring outside sounds; newer ones are the opposite.

I think the keyword in there is taste. I think the 8515 split fantastic, but the tone isn't my flavor, especially the bridge. But 8515 bridge isnt my thing in humbucking either.
