I'm a long-time lurker and this is my first post, so be easy on me. :D I need some advice from the experts here. I have a Custom 24 with 57/08s and I am looking for more output in the bridge . . . thicker, ballsier tone. I play Classic to Heavy Rock and nearly always with dirt. Any suggestions? I know the Cu24 isn't a Les Paul, but I am trying to get it a bit closer. I was considering a Suhr Aldrich set. Anyone have any experience with these or have other suggestions? I was also contemplating a Tremonti treble but wasn't sure if that would be too bright or one-dimentional or how it would work in a thinner body. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Go to your amp and turn the gain knob to the right. The output of those pickups is above what most of the classic rock/metal was recorded with. If that still doesn't do it put an overdrive or boost pedal in front of the dirty channel.

What amp are you using?

I have the Suhr Aldrich bridge pickup in an SE Bernie Marsden, and it is a much thicker, darker sounding pickup than the PAF-ish 57/08. It can actually be a bit muddy if you're putting it into a dark sounding amp.

Oh is that what that knob marked "gain" does? Thanks so much!

Not looking for more gain, just more girth.

If you wanna stay PRS, 59/09, or maybe even \m/...

Otherwise I'd be looking at Bareknuckle or maybe one of Seymour Duncan's newer high-gain offerings...

I have a pair of Blackstars. Plenty of gain and EQ options on tap. The Custom is a touch on the bright side. Perhaps I should just appreciate its strengths instead of trying to make it something it is not.

I'd personally go with an m pickup in the bridge ....I have both sets....m and 59/09. The m has more balls , lots of low end and not too bright at all. The 59/09 I have in my cu 24 . Now this pickup I think is very well suited for the cu24 . Very versatile in deed . I play hard rock, metal and metal core..ok maybe a little jazz too lol but the 59/09 are a great set of pickups ....they are a little hotter than the 57/08 , more modern tone imo

I am pretty happy with the HFS in my CU24
If you are looking for a bit more girth CRGTR turned me on to the Dimarzio Tone Zone it is a darker but not muddy pickup , I have one in my CU22 and it is killer !!!!!

I changed from 53/10s to 59/09s in my modern eagle quatro to suit hard rock and they sound great!!
If you want to hear the tones I got, I used this guitar in two bands which are in iTunes
Arakeye
The Firing Line
cheers

I have a SCT with Suhr Aldrich pickups and it's a MONSTER! NOTHING else I've ever played comes close. Trust me, you'll dig 'em!
