Custom 24 master tone control woes

I absolutely love my '06 Custom 24 but I would like to get rid of something that's bothering me.

I roll down the tone on the bridge pickup, sometimes as low as 3-4. The neck pickup I like to keep almost open, maybe on 8-9. But I only have a single tone control, and it's not optimal to adjust the tone control every time I switch pickups. Which can be multiple times in a solo, ideally.

I tried only having the tone control on the bridge pickup, but this affects the middle position as well. May be the lesser evil.

I have searched the web to find a concentric tone pot in imperial size with a long shaft, but I can't find any. Does anyone know of a concentric tone pot that will fit?

And finally is there any way to jam a second tone pot anywhere without having to enlarge the back cavity?

Tips appreciated!

I would think there is enough room to wire a second 500k pot for the neck pu and leave it in the back cavity. You may have to shield it from touching anything else back there to include cutting the shaft back to a nub so that it can be adjusted but obviously not able to be used with a knob.

Maybe have a concentric tone control put in so you can control them individually? Or just rewire so the tone control is only connected to the bridge pickup, and maybe add a small capacitor to the neck pickup to roll it off the desired amount.

As I wrote, I've looked for a concentric tone pot that will fit a Custom 24, but haven't had any luck. But interesting idea regarding the cap on the neck pickup, thanks! I wondere how it will affect the middle position. And to my knowledge, there's no way to make the tone knob affect the bridge position only, and not bridge+middle.

Does your Custom 24 have the toggle or blade switch? If it's the blade, you might be able to wire in the tone pot or a capacitor in only the bridge position with one of the fancy "super switch" variants. If you have a toggle, it might be possible using a 4PDT switch or one of the Free-Way 6-way toggles, but either way, you're looking at a pretty unique wiring scenario if you only want the tone control engaged when the bridge pickup is on its own.

It's a toggle switch. Yeah, maybe I can get someone (paid) to make me a schematic somewhere.

To be honest, a concentric pot would solve all my issues. I wonder if any exist that would fit a CU24.
Have You Called PRS To See What They Suggest? They may Be Able to Help Advise And Or Point You In The Right Part Direction. May Want To Reach Out To John Mann As Well. if That Doesn't Work I Have A Drill You Can Borrow. ;)

Why a long shaft for a Cu24?

Somebody on here posted about using a resistor only on bridge pickup to tame the high end a bit.

It was quite a while ago but I thought that was a great idea.

Not sure if I can find that thread???

You need to right? The short shaft pots are for pickguards, as I understand. Maybe this one will fit?

Short shaft is what you want and you don't want smooth shaft unless you are going to change knobs too.

You need the smooth shaft since its a concentric pot. But you're saying short shaft pots will fit? The PRS branded pots that are sold are not short shaft though?

Long shaft are for something like a Les Paul. You'll need set screw knobs with a smooth shaft.

Can always use a Dremel to sand/route to get the shaft out a hair further...

Dooooon't do it.... ruins the value and the tone pot is meant to be used,,, not set and forget....;)
