i am interested in either a custom 22( I know discontinued) or Pauls guitar. Can anyone tell me the differences in body thickness and contours. I csn put hands on Pauls guitar but not Custom 22, so hoping someone can help.
Thanks all !

If you can try a Custom 24, the body shape will be identical despite the extra long neck, so the only different would be the neck position.

Normally the Pau's will have a stop tail, whereas most CU 22 will be trem, so that's another difference.

I’m tempted by the current iteration of Paul’s Guitar. I guess I’m waiting for a used one to cross my path. What already did cross my path, however, is a used 20th Ann Custom 22 stoptail with Dragon 2 pickups. Which just happens to be the nicest solidbody electric guitar I’ve ever held in my humble hands. Ever. Regardless of brand, regardless of vintage or modern. It combines otherworldly sustain with a very pleasing acoustic sound that I can really hear back through the amp. It’s just one of those guitars that, to me, scores the last few percentage points that elevate it from really great to magical. The “to me” part is important - your mileage may vary.

Though I fail to see why anyone would want to, but on the C22 you can swap pickups whereas on P’s guitar you can’t. And with some patience a nice C22 can be found for the right price because the model goes back a long time and many have been made.

Necks depend on the shape on the particular guitar. The C22 was made with wide fat and wide thin necks (possibly more, dunno). P’s guitar has a pattern neck which isn’t far removed from wide fat. Body shape is the same, P’s guitar might be slightly thicker.

Thank you SO much. Appreciated

This really nails what I was looking for. Thanks ! I have my eye right now on 1 of each, but a used Custom 22-2009 is really catching my eye. Truly appreciate the help.

I Would Grab That 22 And Never Look Back

I guess I'm too late to this discussion . . . but I have both a 2021 CU22 Piezo and 2022 Paul's. They are pretty interchangeable in terms of size/shape/feel. Of course, they sound completely different!

Pauls guitar doesn't get enough love. It's a great guitar. The Nitro sucks, but it might be just mine. But it plays great.

I recently bought a 09 custom 22 as well, having switched from Les Pauls as I get older. Love the LP'S, For last 30 years, but comfort wise, I am in love with the PRS'S. I Must say I am looking at Paul's guitars now to compare. I'd say I would then sell 1, but who am I kidding.

Pretty Sure the Pauls has a McCarty thickness body ( 1/8" thicker ) than a CU 22 , The Pauls has a Pattern Neck , The CU22 can have a Pattern Thin or Pattern neck , CU22 can have a big variety of pickups , 59/09s , Dragon IIs , etc and there are many variants of CU22 some of the most notable

CU22 Trem
CU22 Wrap bridge
CU22 Triple Soapbar
CU22 Special Semi Hollow ( and LTD )
The Studio 22 is also pretty much a CU22
The DGT is also pretty much a CU22 with a McCarty thickness body.
( I had or have all of these )

Best of luck in your search
