Hi everyone,

Was wondering if I could mod my custom 22 to split in the neck position. I am new to PRS guitars. This guitar is forsale from a friend and is mint.
Really beautiful ! Maybe I could get it more like a DGT?
Thx.

Welcome. Splitting the neck PU can be done, but it would not get you really closer to a DGT. The DGT and CU22 look a lot alike, but are not really the same beasts. Pickups are only a part of that equation. The dgt has more wood in the body (thicker) and if your CU22 has a wide thin neck, also the neck has quite a lot less thicknes. Both affect the overall vibe of that guitar.

Changing PUs to more DGT style output and character would help though if you want a kore DGTish guitar. However I have no idea what makes a DGT pickup a DGT pickup.

@Gtrbldr makes a whole lot of sense
The DGT is very different
and one of those guitars that sets itself apart from the others
The SE DGT is also a very good guitar at a great price
in Fact I was just offered a brand new gold top SE on Reverb for $637 with free shipping

The custom 22 is also a very good guitar and already offers the neck pickup split
Position 2 splits the neck pickup with the bridge pickup
Position 4 splits the Bridge with the neck pickup
if not exactly how you want it,
it should be a simple wiring change to separate the pickups
they are both capable of being split

You can get a CU22 to sound remarkably close to a DGT , a set of McCarty pickups will do this , if anything it will be a taste brighter ( clearer ) which can make it easier to record and make the neck pickup even more useful . the second volume knob on the DGT makes it easier to set up 2 sounds only using a toggle flip. I have seen one or two folks delete the tone knob and go 2 volume on a CU. or use a stacked volume.
Depending on how your CU22 is set up ( Toggle or Blade ) you can wire it for your likes and needs there are also Freeways switches to give you even more options

Does the Custom 22 you’re considering have three knobs, two knobs together and a toggle switch more towards the bottom (where the bottom strap post is), or does it have two knobs with a 5-position blade switch in between them?
