A friend just gave me a set of 5909 pickups for my 2008 CU22. I love the factory Dragon II's but had been considering a change. They will be used with a 5way rotary of course. Has anyone made a similar change? Can you tell me what I might expect tonally? I've watched a few videos on the 5909's but would like to have some input here. I always had a considerable volume drop in the in-between positions of the DII's, will it be as noticeable with the 5909's?

Thanks for any input!

No one?? I thought surely there would be some remarks on the 5909's.

Thanks

If you dont like them send them my way. Couldn't comment on the volume drop but my friends dragons with 5 way rotary dont have a noticeable drop .

I don' t own a PRS with a rotary switch but I have 59/09's in my Dirty 100 and the split position
has no real volume drop to speak of. I'm assuming the in between positions have some sort of coil split?

I have 59/09's on my DC22, but it has a 3-way. I will say I am totally happy with their tone and performance. A great pickup, for sure!

I have 59/09's in my Custom 22. It's simply amazing. I'm not a huge fan of the Dragon II pickups, so the 59/09's were a tremendous improvement IMHO

Thanks everyone. I can't wait to get them installed. Recovering from shoulder surgery now, worst part...can't hold a guitar. I know I'll be pleased though.

I have DGTs in my Custom 22 and while I liked the Dragon 2 pickups just fine, because it's an awesome guitar and would probably sound good no matter what pickups were in it, the DGTs took it to a whole new level I didn't think possible. Mine are a rare set in that they have the correct wiring for the rotary switch. I also get a volume drop in positions 9 and 7, it's just the nature of the beast I think. I would love to try 59/09s but really, I love it so much with the DGTs that I can't justify any time or expense put into a pickup swap in that guitar.

Thanks John. I agree totally about the CU22. I've had mine about five years and it's all I want to play. Coming from the strat and tele world the feel of the 22 was a great transition. I haven't played too many other PRS models, but the DGT has certainly caught my eye and ears. Those pickups are so versatile. I'm sure I'll be pleased with the 5909's. From what I understand the 5909's are not as "hot" as the DII's and therefore the volume drop shouldn't be as noticeable. We'll see.
