So I have a HXDA 50 head that I don’t really use nowadays since recent events and surgery. Sounds great, but I can’t play much anymore. Haven’t seen many for sale and didn’t know if anyone knew if they are desirable by many or If selling it is worth the effort? Any thoughts?

I just got one recently, a 30 watt 2x12 combo, and love it. HX mode and turn both gains up to 130-2 o’clock and it is crunchy and tasty. Not sure if they are still ‘cool’ or not but I am digging it big time.

I sold my 50 watt head November 2017 off Reverb(I saw it listed...)and got what I asked for it...don't regret it either. Never bonded with it...now it's Petaluma all the way...

I still love mine.

I set it up with the Master Volume at 2:00, the HX gain a little past noon, the DA gain around 8-9:00, and the guitar volume around halfway or a little more. Then I get everything from beautiful cleans to serious crunch, and then classic rock gain, just using the guitar's volume control.

Because I play mostly clean-ish or on the edge of breakup, and the guitar volume is somewhere close to halfway up, things don't get all that loud, and there's some good sounding headroom.

Of course, amps are a taste thing, and everyone has different needs, but for me, the amp is still my #1 choice and has been since 2014. I can't imagine letting it go. I think of it as a lifetime keeper. I love my DG30, and I have a couple of really nice Mesas to round things out, but the HXDA is the Mac Daddy of my studio.

Mine's loaded with NOS Mullard 12AX7s and NOS Siemens EL34s. It sounds like what it's supposed to sound like, a vintage Plexi. I've found that the NOS tubes give it more of that authentic tone I bought it for.

I still wholeheartedly love my HXDA (it’s actually a 25th Anniversary). Mine has Winged C EL34s and my 12ax7s are Genalex Gold Lions. I run it through a Rivera attenuator because I like to play with creamy distortion. I like to push the amp hard because I love playing with higher gain, with harmonics jumping off the fretboard.

Mine is also a keeper for life. It is built like a tank, sounds fantastic and looks beautiful.

So, to answer your question, I think it would be worth the effort to sell it. Someone will want to buy it. If you don’t want the hassle of shipping, you could advertise it locally for pickup, or take a hit and trade it in at Guitar Center.

Mine isn't going anywhere either. I'm playing country, rock, rockabilly, and even some hard rock with it and it sound killer. I'm playing through a Dumble style 212 semi open back loaded with a Celestion Cream Alnico and a G12H-75 Creamback and it sounds incredible. The Dumble Cab sounds better for cleans than my 412 loaded with the same speakers. I can hit it with a Klone (Centura) gain about 11 with the amp gain around 12-1 and it just kills. Or I can set the amp clean, turn up the master, gain on 8-9 o'clock, turn the gain about all the way off on the Centura add some slapback, reverb, and compression, grab my tele and cover country and it just smokes doing it. So for me its like 2 amps (or more) in one. So thanks again to LSchefman and his answers to my numerous pm's about a year ago that helped me decide to purchase the amp.

So glad it worked out!!

It’s great to see that they are holding their value. Not that mine is for sale. I almost bought the David Grissom head and cabinet but I decided on this one. I still want a Grissom since it has a totally different vibe.

If you get one I’ll give you the download on how to set it up. Its topology is a little different from the HXDA, due to the location of the master volume and phase inverter in the circuit. The controls are more interactive.

Thank you very much, Les.

No worries! I'd love to see everyone at the very least try a DG30 out. They're awfully good amps.

As much as I like my Mesa amps (I've never stopped being a Mesa fan, or for that matter a Two-Rock fan even though I no longer own a TR), when I switch to the DG30 and the HXDA, I feel like I lit up the real deal stuff. The PRS single channel amps are on another level entirely.

While I realize that I can be a bit inconsistent about my gear pronouncements, I don't think I'll ever sell my PRS amps.

In fact, given the fact that I own all the guitars I want currently, I think my next big investment might just be a JMOD. They won't be around forever, and the PRS single channel amps are simply wonderful.

I’d love a JMOD, too. They ain’t cheap!

My Two Rocks cost that much 15 years ago. I'm debating whether it'd have to much overlap with the Lone Star I already have.

One thing to keep in mind (at least for me) is that being "in the box" now for so many audio needs, instead of unloading a ton on hardware, frees up more funds for the things that make the noises in the first place - guitars, amps, synths, microphones, etc.

I am happy to say that Jay and I found a win-win deal spot, and I’ll soon be making a NAD post! Any of you experienced HXDA pilots can feel absolutely free to share any insights you can spare via PM or in the post, when it happens. I’m really looking forward to it!

You will not be disappointed. Congrats!

I prefer to run mine into an attenuator so that I can push the amp very hard to get a creamy overdriven tone without an overdrive pedal. This way I can hear the amp, not a pedal. I recommend the Rivera Rockcrusher.

I’ve got a Universal Audio Ox Box that I use to tame a blissfully powerful Carol-Ann Tucana 3. I’m going to give that a shot. I’ve got a 2x12 cab with UK-made Celestion Greenbacks in it, along with a closet full of other 12s I can experiment with. Can’t wait.

Oh yeah, that Ox Box should definitely do the trick. Those are pretty sweet.
