CU24 bridge pu screws too short

playing a great CU24 from '05 with trem. one problem: the bridge pickup is too close to the strings. tried to lower it, but not enough screw length... keeps dropping into the cavity. will try to find some longer brass ones at hardware store. what specs do i need to look for? diameter, thread, etc.

You might check to see if someone swapped the screws with the ones in the neck pickup.

The screws are #3 but I can't remember if the thread count is 40 or 48. My local hardware store has them but they're not long enough.
