Hi guys,

I'm currenty looking to get a CU 24 and still unsure what model to select as I don't have opportunity to test them
either the one equipped with 85/15 pickups and 5 ways switch or the 24/08 with TCI pickups 3 way switch and 2 mini switches

could help me please, by describing how those pickups sounds ?

Thanks
Patrick

I recently purchased a CU 24-08 because I am a huge fan of the TCI pups. Always wanted to be Paul’s guitar with the TCI pups and 24 frets. I love my MEV the most versatile guitar PRS makes in my opinion with the TCI pickups.

If I were you, I would check out the video demonstrations by Bryan Ewald. They sound great with good headphones and really exhibit the differences. It also depends upon what music you play regarding the sounds you’re looking for. I’ve also heard descriptions of the TCI pickups as pickups that are like silent P 90s. I truly love the TCI pickups, but that’s my preference. Here are links to some of Bryan‘s demonstrations. I’ve always found these demonstration videos with good headphones really helpful regarding the tones of the pickups and Guitar models.

Another thing to keep in mind is there is a custom 24 coming out with new DMO pickup for the 40th anniversary but that’s not the 2408 configuration.

For the hell of it, here’s a link to the custom 24 with DMO pickups

Hope this helps, cheers!

If your going the Narrow 408 new CU24/08 I would go Modern Eagle V instead , Pattern Thin neck is not my thing.

Thanks a lot for the links to videos, I've carefully listen with my headphones and monitoring speakers (Adam A5X). I feel (right or wrong) that the TCIs sounds "warmer" than the 85/15. I'm mainly playing in cover bands over there (Pop and classic Rock mainly). There is also less pickups options with the 85/15, but the 5 way switch is handy to quickly switch from one configuration to another, might be less easy with the 3 way switch behind the bridge and 2 mini toggles. Patrick.

Thanks for your help, Wonderful guitars 👍, especially your MEV, is that a Faded Whale Blue ?
One question, if I can, regarding the CU 24-08, when performing live how handy is the switching solution with the 3 way switch behind the bridge and 2 toggle switches ?
Patrick.

In my opinion, TCIs are not really P90s, maybe a middle between full size humbuckers and P90s, they are something in their own right. I find them extremely versatile, and I play everything on them without any compromise. I have other Suhr guitars, with thornbuckers, and I don't find abysmal differemences indeed. The most obvious differences are with clean sounds where the split TCIs have a somewhat tele sound that I love.

The MEV is Faded Blue Jean , here's to hoping it does not fade a bunch more in person there is Blue and Brown and some grey
