I just returned from the PRS mother-land out in Stevensville, MD -- Was a very cool trip this time around and I'm really excited to share our first hand-picked Private Stock build with all of you. This one will be available for pre-order once we have finalized the price and specs. We also did a large Wood Library run (look for a thread on that shortly) that occupied the majority of my trip this time so sadly I wasn't able to get everything locked in at the factory. As of right now, some of the small specs are subject to change. However, 100% of the lumber was selected by me with some assistance from our friends Tina and Paul Miles.

They had several Spalted tops available, but nothing that looked remotely like this. This is going to be an insane guitar.

They also had some absolutely gorgeous figured mahogany bodies hanging out as well. Even though this is going to be a semi build, I wanted to find the lightest woods I could find... This was the coolest looking, lightest, and also most resonant of the mahogany bodies that was available on 5/26. Very cool piece of wood!

The guitar itself is going to bring together some different McCarty-esque appointments to make something that looks unique and sounds great, but functions in a familiar way. Here is the loose specs, just keep in mind some small things are still waiting approval (we all know they don't like to say no...) so if anything changes, my apologies.

    McCarty 594 Single-Cut Semi-Hollow Specs:

    • Hand select Spalted Maple top
    • Single, ebony-bound F-Hole
    • Mahogany body
    • Ziricote neck
    • Figured Ebony fretboard
    • Spalted Maple bird inlays
    • Spalted Maple headstock overlay w/ Ebony inlay
    • Ebony binding
    • African Blackwood pick-up covers, pick-up rings, tuner buttons, and knobs
    • 58/15LT pick-ups
    • Smoked Chrome McCarty wrap-around bridge

    Thanks for looking!

Is that an eagle swooping down in the middle of that top? Or maybe one of those flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz?

I think the top is actually The Dark Lord himself manifesting into physical form by way of Spalted Maple.

Either way, you've got to love that top! So much to look at, so many interpretations of what could be hiding in it. Very cool piece!

I do! I will try and get it posted up here tomorrow. It's not the best image, but the neck looks killer.

Spalted burl. Cool work by mother nature. Are they going to have to stabilize that to make it solid enough?

We could also call it Spalted Burl Maple. Mother Nature certainly had some artistic vision with this one. As far as stabilization is concerned... That is actually a great question considering the nature of straight-up "Spalted Maple", but I don't believe that to be an issue. Coming straight out of The Vault, I doubt they would put something in there that would raise any flags of concern. I am interested to learn about how that guitar will eventually be braced considering the Semi MC594s are not production models. I am due to go back to PRS this fall and will likely be able to catch the guitar at some point in production and will report back. Definitely keeping a close eye on this build.

Thanks for chiming in, I've seen you post some of the coolest PRS guitars on different forums. I feel your contribution to the thread is a compliment in itself!

    Thanks.

It can be impregnated with West's Marine Epoxy or even superglue to stabilize it. Won't hurt the appearance. Should be a stellar piece!
