Well, we played a private corporate gig tonite. Huge venue, about 550 people. Dance floor was packed from the first song. Kinda cool.
Was channeling my Dad in the last set. About halfway thru made them play "Amie" and a Marty Stuart song called "Hillbilly Rock". Anyway, everyone loved it.

I'm younger than Marty, but, damn, I'm his doppelganger.

I've been gigging my 2011 Studio exclusively since I got it. Does everything. Really all u need. IMUO, even though it is much ignored and unloved, best guitar I've ever played. The pickup combo gives everything. Have to be aggressive with it, and I'm really aggressive when I play. NFs r fabulous pickups. When I first got it, was going to put a BK Nailbomb in it. Sounds so good, never bothered.

Cheers!

Anywho, my real point is this ... all u guys that endlessly obsess about tone and whatnot ... when u play live, it simply doesn't matter. No-one can tell the difference. Just has to be "close enough for r'nr. If u can't make your rig cover all areas, then u need to buckle down.

Can't speak about the Studio (never touched one), but Amen to the rest. Doubt the unwashed masses are sophisticated enough about real music. Look at what's on the radio these days. Bleaaah!

Been gigging every nite for two weeks. Going to take January off. I don't get complicated. Play my Studio, have a zoom G5 into a much unknown and unloved Traynor Custom 50 Special. As I say, when I play live, close enough is good enough. I can get any tone you want with this rig. no matter, I'm just thankful that I can do this with some limited amount of success. it's kinda fun and every once in a while it helps with the women.
Cheers!

Most of the time no one cares about tone besides the player and maybe 1 or 2 guitar players in the crowd(at best). The only real benefit is that when the player loves what they're hearing, they play better, or are more inspired and into it.

FACT!

Sounds like a fun gig! I dig Marty Stuart a lot too--great player, great singer, great writer, and as far as I'm concerned he's got the best band in Nashville--and features them a lot on his TV show. When Cousin Kenny Vaughn dies I want his gig...

Yeah, they are a great band ... and they clearly are having fun and enjoying themselves. I just find Marty to be a cool guy. Don't know why. In one of his videos, he is driving a convertible and stops to pickup a women hitchhiking, says something to the effect of "Hey Baby, Get In". Has me believing that he could get away with that in real life with that southern drawl and innocent look. If I tried that, the SWAT team would be surrounding me in about thirty seconds (lol). All good stuff.

I agree and I certainly don't have any issues with guys chasing tone to their heart's content. It's fun and if it makes playing more enjoyable all the better. It's certainly important if you are recording or in a professional "big-time" band, but for what I do, it's not worth the effort or expense. Play "Satisfaction", dial up my fuzz patch on the G5. Works well, sounds good.
Guitarists ... worse audience members ever, and you can always tell who they are (lol).
