All you Core NF3 diehards, I need some advice. I purchased a 2012 Core NF3 last year and absolutely love it. I have been looking for another one (backup) and one just was posted on Reverb. It’s a 2014 with an East Indian Rosewood fretboard with bird inlays. I know that dots were more popular for this model, but I have bird inlays on my maple neck. The seller is asking $3,950 + SH. Was there something unique about the 2014’s that make them worth 2x? Or is the Seller asking an unreasonable #? Btw, I’m aware that there’s another on Reverb for $1,800.

The seller is being absolutely unreasonable. $4k for an NF3 is twice what it should be listed for.
That was my thinking as well. I am asking the forum because I am not sure if there’s something unique about this offering. It’s a painted body. So, it can’t be about the wood grain. Thank you for chiming in.

Frost Blue Metallic was one of the regularly offered colors and birds were not that unusual. I'll be charitable and say that the seller is a bit confused about what he is selling. For that price I'd sell a couple of mine.

Yea Ive seen NF3 prices at astounding levels , not sure if any sell for that 2-3K with the low end being most normal IMHO

They only way I'd approach $2K for one is if the one I have got stolen. I can't believe anyone is even asking about paying $3K for one. $4K is a joke.

But, this is from the guy who has bought, sold and seen the following...
- Bought a mini recto brand new from dealer for $900. Sold it two years later for $650. Saw a 12 year old one for sale for $1,350 recently
-Bought a Mark V25 for $1299 brand new from dealer. Sold it two years old for $1000. Saw a 10 year old used one listed for $1450 recently
-Sold a used/mint Mark V for $1200. Saw one that's 15 years old listed for $2495 recently.
-Bought a new EBMM Cutlass for $1199 new from dealer. Saw a 10 year old used one listed yesterday for $1999
- Paid $550 for a brand new from dealer Mesa veritical recto 2x12 cab. Saw one listed for $750 that is older than mine, and has multiple scars while mine is mint.
-Paid $2450 out the door for a brand new from dealer Custom 24. Looks at similar models now and says "nah, I'd rather retire."

LUCKILY, I had a nice little gear flourish from 2010-2014 because ain't no way in freaking he77 I'd pay the prices people are paying for used gear now. ABSOLUTELY NUTS! I have the funds to play at this level, but thank God I have NO DESIRE!

The point was actually that the pandemic screwed prices up so badly that I’m simply not interesting in most things used anymore. Those Mesa’s have gone up 40% or so since I bought mine. PRS’s… almost the same. So then used gear started selling for more than I paid for the same stuff brand new! At which point, I have no interest.

NF3's are amazing guitars....mine is a lifer. That said, 4k even in this market of overpriced used guitars is comical.

I am also in the camp that is glad to have purchased most of my PRS's pre-pandemic. With the price of them now, I would have to move other guitars and I don't have any in my collection now I would want to get rid of.

I want to thank you all for your invaluable input. The Seller of the $3,950 NF3 on Reverb is demanding that I take down this post. Instead, I think I’m going to post his comments for all future NF3 enthusiasts to see that there are Sellers out there who are unrealistic, and in the used guitar market, they are particularly to be avoided.

I don’t fault anyone for getting top dollar for their guitar. There’s a “bid/ask” and buyers are free to pay, and even overpay whatever they like. Because it’s an opaque process, buyers seeking advice, insight and data should have that information available if they do the work.

There are 97 “Sold” Core NF3’s on Reverb. Reverb does not publish the final transaction price (like eBay), they only show the listing price and the # of offers. Of the 97, 1 was listed at $3,950. A few were listed b/t $2,000-$2,500. The majority, 90%+ were listed below $2,000, in a range from $1,300 to $1,950.

I love my NF3 and I’m looking forward to my next one. My own advice is buy/sell/trade with good people, and lay the heck out of the guitars you own.
