There are two wiring diagrams on the website: one for 2012, one for "current."

I played a new S2 semi hollow through a dual rec and 2x12 and it positively SLAYED.

Got a 2012 USA, thinking it would be a higher expression of the S2 I'd loved, and low and behold, it WASN'T.

Too bright, bridge is piercing. Balance with the tone control, neck dynamics suffer.

So the 2012 diagram is modern tone pot wiring with a .033uf cap.The "current" reflects 50's style with a .022.

Did the pickup spec change now that they're made in Korea? This thing I've got now has a bridge brightness so hot I almost wanna wire in a 333K resistor from the pickup's hot output to ground like a Duncan JB: make it see @125K and the neck see @250K for treble balance.

Anyone else noticed this?

It would appear the 2012 is the only one with the square bobbin pickups, V12 and Phase III's. It also has the dead spot at the 12th fret on the G string that some have commented on. That's a bummer.

My 07 Mira is brighter than my 05 Custom 22, but not by much. Thinner body, longer neck... it makes sense. I did add a 2.2K resistor to the coil split circuit but otherwise mine is stock. I love it the way it is. That said, before I had this one, I had an 08 Mira that was darker toned, particularly the neck pickup. So, maybe you just got a bright one if they vary that much.

I can't comment on the S2's Korean made pickups and how their specs might compare.

Does it have modern or 50's wiring? What is the tone pot cap value? I see in 2012 the Dave Navarro model got modern wiring with the .033 as well, and the newer ones have 50's with the .022.

Part of your difference in the S2 and Core is the semi hollow construction on the S2. I have an S2 Custom 22 Semi, and the identical guitar in solid body form (Satin Standard), and the Standard is considerably brighter sounding. As is my Mira X vs. the S2 semi, come to think of it. The semi hollows really round off the high frequencies. I toyed with adding another cap on the Mira X to tame the highs, but it was fighting me so in the end I just roll the treble down and go with it, sounds great. I just have to mentally come to peace with having my tone pot at 4 or 5, always makes me feel like I'm "doing it wrong" for some reason. But tone is tone.

Interesting. Usually, 50's wiring with a smaller cap would make things BRIGHTER. That semi hollow was right on tho!

I wonder why PRS changed it in 2012 and then changed it back for the S2's?

I dunno...the 2012 Navarro had the same wiring. They may have done it across the board that year.

Rewired it to the current spex, .022 orange drop 50's style to the hot output of the volume control. Added a 300K resistor to the bridge. Oh Lordy me! So much more musical and way better treble balance! It's a rock machine now!

Also, I cut my teeth on an Ibanez Studio 100, and by golly, the Mira's body carves and horns look astonishingly similar!

Hello- when you refer to modern vs.50's -vintage wiring, are you discussion the same difference that is a part of the Les Paul wiring history? ( which lug on tone control(s) / where the cap is connected from volume to tone)
