Anyone notice some slightly unusual (and totally awesome) tones in the 35th Anniversary and McCarty videos? And, also, no mention of the amp used, nor any shots of an amp in those videos???

Usually, especially lately, there's one or the other. I have suspicions. Usually all demos are done with current production amps. Doesn't sound like a Sonzera, JMOD, MT, or Archon at all. Not as raspy on the gain settings as the Sonzera and JMOD, not as high gain as the MT/Archon. From the current offerings, it sounds most like the DG30... but the midrange sounds like it's focused higher, more of an upper mid snarl, than the slightly lower, open, vowel like sound of the DG. Heck, I don't have a DG, so maybe that's what it is, just tweaked differently on the EQ, and/or having to do with the TCI pickups on many of the 2020's. Or, it could be an HXDA, but they're discontinued, and it doesn't sound exactly like that either, to me. What it sounds most like to me is reminiscent of the singing mids in the MDT/Paul's amp, but the gain is somehow more articulate in the upper mids, sweeter on top, and less rolled up in bass.

What it really sounds like is something with a mid emphasis boost pedal in front of it, but I've never seen an official PRS demo done any other way than straight into the amp. Whatever it is, I sure as heck would like to know, because it sounds freakin amazing.

Hmmm....I thought there was an interview with Paul a few years ago where he said they were dabbling with a few FX pedals. Wonder if this is one of them? But I’ve been known to suffer recall of the imaginary

I remember hearing that rumor too... don't recall if it was via an interview with Paul, or someone posted it here on the forum. Personally, I don't think it would be a great move, because the pedal market is so oversaturated right now, I have doubts they could ever make a serious profit off them. But, it sure does sound like something is going on there, and if it's a pedal... looks like I'm buying a pedal!

I have no idea if there is a new one in the pipeline, but I noticed last year that there are les and less non-signature amps available, so it looks like there is room for another in the stock amp price range.

I remember chatting with a couple of the PS guys about pedals...I would love to see them start...
and match up 2 effects in each pedal...Dist (OD)/Delay, Chorus/Flange, Trem/Phaser, etc...
Tech 21 ran with the idea, with 3-4 effects on a single board as "Fly Rigs"...

This!!!!

I would gladly entertain a new model amp to supplement my HXDA, Archons, and Sweet 16.
I was thinking that yesterday. Last night I only played the Archon. I've been going for the"tight"thing Elvis and I have talked about, for months now. Last night I decided to let it loose! I turned the bass from 11:00 to 12:00 and the Depth from 9:00 to noon. The gain, which normally stays around 10:00 went up to 1:00! First, I turned the mids down to 9:00 and even lower, then tried them at noon, and settle at 11:00. After a few minutes, I turned the gain all the way down to 8:00, then slowly back up and settled in around noon. In the course of 45 minutes, I heard SO many GREAT tones, I once again wondered why I needed ANY other amps.

I'm going to leave the knobs at the last positions for a while... it just sounds killer! (All through Dr. Z Zbest cab last night, with V30/Warehouse ET65)

You’re correct, Paul did talk about pedal development, on a video about 12-18 months ago.

I have no idea what the amp is; The DG30, HXDA and other PRS single-channel amps don’t have footswitches, and Brian did step on some kind of a switch moving to a gain sound. So, could have been a channel switch, or could have been a pedal.

If it was a pedal, it sure sounded organic and transparent.

Whatever it was, the demo sounds beautiful.

Also, the whole McCarty lineup sounds really, really sweet. I’m sure I’ll be stoked in a year or 18 months when mine arrives! ;)
