Knows the Drill
Anyone notice some slightly unusual (and totally awesome) tones in the 35th Anniversary and McCarty videos? And, also, no mention of the amp used, nor any shots of an amp in those videos???
Usually, especially lately, there's one or the other. I have suspicions. Usually all demos are done with current production amps. Doesn't sound like a Sonzera, JMOD, MT, or Archon at all. Not as raspy on the gain settings as the Sonzera and JMOD, not as high gain as the MT/Archon. From the current offerings, it sounds most like the DG30... but the midrange sounds like it's focused higher, more of an upper mid snarl, than the slightly lower, open, vowel like sound of the DG. Heck, I don't have a DG, so maybe that's what it is, just tweaked differently on the EQ, and/or having to do with the TCI pickups on many of the 2020's. Or, it could be an HXDA, but they're discontinued, and it doesn't sound exactly like that either, to me. What it sounds most like to me is reminiscent of the singing mids in the MDT/Paul's amp, but the gain is somehow more articulate in the upper mids, sweeter on top, and less rolled up in bass.
What it really sounds like is something with a mid emphasis boost pedal in front of it, but I've never seen an official PRS demo done any other way than straight into the amp. Whatever it is, I sure as heck would like to know, because it sounds freakin amazing.
