Confusion about Artist Package options for SC58

Hi forumers! I'm new here and got into PRS about 5 years ago..recently i won an SC58 auction, due to arrive in a few days and can't help wondering about the Artist Package options for this particular model. I'm pretty sure mine doesn't have any AP options but i've seen many listings for SC58's with Artist Package and they look the same (no AP options) to me.. What's a surefire way to tell? Ebony headstock veneer? Nickel/Gold hardware? If it has a different top like quilted maple I think that's a custom option for sure..Thanks guys!

I had an SC58 Artist Package. Because the SC58 was so highly specified to start with -- for example, an Artist grade top was standard on that model - the AP changes are often very subtle on the 58. Ebony fingerboard and matching headstock were an Artist Package option, but they could also be ordered with Rosewood fingerboards and headstock veneers. Gold or mixed hardware were AP options, but gold and mixed hardware e options on the SC58 stock.

The Artist Packages allowed you to choose something other than 57/08 pickups for example, mine had 53/10s. And I went with the ebony fingerboard/headstock because I could.

The bird inlays were a little bit more sparkly. There was an artist case. If I recall, the Artist Package wasn't as much of an upcharge on the SC58 as usual because the guitar was very close to an Artist Package in the first place.

Here's a picture of the SC58 Artist Package that I had a couple of years ago. It's every bit as pretty as my current McCarty Singlecut Artist Relations guitar, if not more so, but the tone is just a bit more modern than my current one:

JMintzer: sorry totally forgot to describe or post pics! heres the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/281385855562?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

LSchefman: That is one sweeeet SC-58! May I know what the finish is on that? Thanks for the great info too on the AP options..I just see so many "standard" SC58s that claim to have AP but features seem pretty standard to me..Do AP guitars have a certification of any sort? Just a little letter even? Thanks!

The finish on the one in the picture is Burnt Almond, a color available on Artist Pkg. that wasn't available on regular ones. I should have mentioned that.

The hang tag will specify whether it's an AP. There should also be something on the MODCAT sticker under one of the pickups, or if the original owner left the sticker on the case, on that sticker. There is a MODCAT decoder link in a thread somewhere on the forum.

Great thanks again for the MODCAT info..i gotta admit this is the first i've heard of it..one last question: I read somewhere that PRS switched to 50's wiring sometime ago on most of their models (even my DGT)..however the SC-58 looks to me like modern wiring (capacitor connects to outer lug rather than center lug)..i'll just have to shift it over right? THanks again you guys have been a great help!

Tele, I can tell someone how they play and how they sound, but wiring schematics and what's modern vs 50s in terms of wiring is way, way out of my wheelhouse!

No problems LS! You've been a great help to me and I thank you for that!

Anyone with knowledge on the SC58 wiring care to chime in? Much appreciated!

From looking at the auction pics, I'd wager it's -not- an Artist Package guitar...

But, I've been wrong before (just ask the wife... ;) )...

Post the MODCAT #'s. That's the only way to be sure...

JMintzer: I found the MODCAT and entered it at the modcat site. Turns out its a plain ol' standard haha but I love it nonetheless! Thanks!

All SC58's have Artist grade tops, headstock veneer and neck binding. The Stripped 58 model didn't have neck binding or headstock veneer and was available with or without a 10 Top.

Hi Shawn, thanks for the clarification! I asked in an earlier post about the SC58's wiring being 'modern' wiring despite reading somewhere that PRS recently adopted 50's wiring pretty much all across the board..Is the SC58 modern wiring or maybe i;m mistaken? Thanks!

AP515: Thanks for the link but i've seen that as well as the other SC models..what i wanna confirm is if that is modern wiring..im guessing based on my limited electronics and wiring knowledge..

Given that you spoke of the cap to lug connections correctly, I thought you only needed to compare with a 50's schemativ. I agree with you that the SC58 looks modern but I'm not an expert either.

Not an expert here either haha, but I think we might be right..its a little odd though that part of the marketing of an SC58 was sort of PRS's R8 yet it has modern wiring..in comparison, the post 2007 SC models have 50's wiring..
