Good morning,

I don't know this forum, this is my first post here, so please advise, if this is the right place to ask this question or whether this should be done via PRS tech forum.

I am about to purchase lefty PRS Custom 22 Top 10 which comes with Pattern neck. Factory paper work does not specify, whether this is Pattern Wide Thin, Wide Fat or Regular? I would only consider purchase, if this is Regular.

I've contacted PRS USA Customer service on several occasions as well as PRS UK with Ser No for this specific instrument and no answer at all whatsoever....

Any help / suggestion would be much appreciated, as I am not able to inspect guitar in person.

Many thanks, Arkad

Hi, thanks for the info, but I know this link and I did look at it and it rather does not answer my question...., what I am saying the factory document for this specific lefty PRS Custom 22 I am after only states 'PATTERN' without specifying whether it is Wide Fat, Wide Thin or Pattern... This is why I tried to contact PRS directly to specify more details on the type of the neck, no joy so far.... this is also why I am asking, there is anyone here on this PRS forum, who might have some email contacts within PRS to confirm exact type of Pattern neck on this guitar... I am not able to try / check it in person and from looking at right handed PRS guitars there is significant difference between Regular Pattern and other version of Pattern....

I will be heading to Birmingham UK Guitar Show this weekend, where PRS has a stand, maybe they can help....

Presumably you don't have the guitar to hand? Any pictures or any other incriminating evidence?

No, I don't have guitar to hand - I would not ask all the questions above, if I had as it would have allowed me to 'feel' the neck. I am in UK, guitar is in Scandinavia. I asked PRS USA to confirm the shape of PATTERN neck (Wide, Fat or Regular) by giving them S/N for instrument, but they don't seem to bother with answering this email..... The wide Fats are very V shaped ones and of wider specs in the nut, I would only consider buying this guitar, if this is REGULAR PATTERN, but no joy so far on getting info from PRS themselves.

Don't really know how the photos will justify difference between let's say Pattern Wide and Regular, but I will try to upload it later on, thanks

Wide Fat
Width: 1-11/16" = 1.69" = 42.9mm
Depth: 27/32" = 0.84" = 21.43mm

Wide Thin
Width: 1-11/16" = 1.69" = 42.9mm
Depth: 25/32" = 0.78125" = 19.8mm

Regular
Width: 1-21/32" = 1.66" = 42.1mm
Depth: 27/32" = 0.84" = 21.43mm

If it just says Pattern on the hang tag/paperwork it should be Wide Fat. If I recall correctly, it would either be Pattern, Pattern Regular or Pattern Thin. Pattern is WF, Pattern Regular is Regular and Pattern Thin is WT.

@Arkad you are confusing your terms.

If it says Pattern, it is PATTERN. That's it. That's the name of the carve. One word. It is an evolution of wide/fat, but "Pattern Wide/Fat" is a mixed term and incorrect, it doesn't exist.

Pattern Regular and Pattern Thin are the other two main carves, evolved from Regular (Standard) and Wide/Thin respectively.

The carves are not exactly the same as the old ones.

AFAIK The Custom 22 is only available in Pattern or Pattern Thin. If the tag says Pattern though, that's what it will be. You can check the MODCAT online (or serial number with PRS directly via email or phone) to verify.

on their web site below, you welcome Sir...

I want to know, which of those carves guitar comes with, if it only says 'PATTERN' on hang tag.

I guess bodia has it right.... and if this is Pattern, Wide Fat I will certainly pass on the guitar, trying right-handed ones before with exact that neck.

You are misunderstanding. I promise you that I am right. Re-read my post.

If it only says Pattern, that is the carve. "Pattern" is the name of the carve. Just the one word. It is not "Wide Fat" and it is not "Pattern Wide Fat" (there is no such thing as that, it's mixed terminology.)

This means that it is NOT Pattern Regular.

THIS. There always seems to be confusion that arises from PRS neck naming.

A PATTERN neck is, simply put, PATTERN. It may have been based on the old wide-fat, but is not as beefy. A PATTERN THIN neck is thinner, front to back. A PATTERN REGULAR neck is the same thickness, front to back, as a PATTERN, but is slightly narrower at the nut.

Searching round the UK there are quite a few left handed PRSi of different flavours for sale. You may be able to find one close to you so you can get your hands on it.

Whitecat is actually right. I used the old description in an effort to make the "translation" easier.
Today's Pattern is the new version of Wide Fat. They don't use Wide Fat or Wide Thin any longer. It's just Pattern, Pattern Reg, or Pattern Thin. So, if the one you're looking at just says Pattern, it's the updated WF carve.
