Beautifully Broken
So yesterday the company I work for held their annual Christmas Oyster Roast. Basically the company shuts down for the afternoon and they do oysters, burgers, hot dogs, and some burnt ends. One of the guys brough in his drum kit and a very small PA setup to jam along with tunes. Another guy brought in an amp and a guitar. I didn't know anything about the jam so I didn't bring anything. There was going to be a bass but that guy didn't get the word that it was actually going to happen. The guitar was an SE Custom Semi-Hollow that I will generously describe as "needing a bit of work." The amp was a Fender Mustang (?) head through some kind of "tweed" Peavey cab. For what it was, it didn't actually sound horrible.
If someone told me that the strings on the guitar were 5 years old, I would have believed it. The low "E" string was actually an "A" and the high E string was wrapped backwards on the peg. The bridge pickup treble side was practically inside the guitar. Looks like it may have lost the spring. The guy said it's basically his "beater" guitar which I believe and I don't think he puts any effort into upkeep. Anyway, he jammed for a bit and then I got up and jammed for a bit. It was a bit awkward as it was guitar, drums, and music. I'll describe the drummer as someone who was experimenting with "polyrhythms."
And most of the bits I jammed with (both actual songs and some kind of backing tracks) I wasn't very familiar with and the stuff I was familiar with, the drummer was not.
I told the guy that if he wanted, I could take a crack at setting up the guitar. Gonna take some elbow grease and quite a bit of twiddling to get it into good shape, but I think it could be done.
PS: He has no idea what strings are on it. I ass/u/me it's 10s? Isn't that what it would have had from the factory?
